Nevermind, I just uninstalled and reinstalled it directly into the skyrim folder
You put the *contents* in the skyrim special edition folder. The creation kit.exe should be in the same folder as SSE's exe.
I prefer to not do it directly because I don't want the launcher knowing where the creation kit is.

Hi! I've followed the guide exactly. Only thing I did differently was install the creation kit directly into the Skyrim folder. However, the CK crashes almost immediately after loading even when running as Admin. It will load for a few second and look like it is loading only to crash a few moments later. Any advice? I'm using a fresh install of classic Skyrim with the DLC. I don't have any mods currently installed.
You're mixing your games and devkits. The LE Creation Kit is installed through Steam. You'll need to open up Steam and have the library show you the list of Tools and install it from there. It's a lot more user friendly. I didn't write a guide for the ini edits although I'm sure there's a mod on nexus for CK fixes for LE the way there is for SE.

when i try to run CreationKit.exe it gives an error popup saying "The code execution cannot proceed because steam_api64.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem" The save path is "E:\Bethesda launcher\Bethesda.net Launcher\games\Creation Kit\CreationKit.exe" and its run as administrator. Help. where do I save the file.
Yup, you install it there and then copy the contents of the Creation Kit folder to your Skyrim SE folder (not Data), just like HeyYou said.

Greyed out implies that the path can't be changed
Yup, that's exactly how it was with previous versions. I'll have to go experiment a bit to test things with this new version. Previously if it tried to install it to the wrong directory it meant you hadn't made sure Skyrim SE had created its registry keys and there *was* no way to correct this during installation.

Getting the CK fixes seems to make it largely unnecessary.
Notepad++ is just a better version of default text editors on windows. You just use it to open the text files instead of whatever the windows default is.
