So I was trying to think of a name for the whole shin-dig, but nothing came to mind. Anything?

Wasteland Wanderings.

Fallout Tales.

What is the background story? Where is home base, Megaton?

Home Base... Dark Rider suggested the character is abducted by a crazy who lives in a vault. Then the vault would be home base.

would suggest starting the story with your character being taken (perhaps unconscious or disoriented) into a strange vault by a rugged old man calling himself "The Collector". He's a bit of a do gooder and brings people from the wastelands injured or well into his safehaven, actually Haven might be a cool name for it. Anyway, this will give you a central place and a reason for new people to be coming in and out over time. Also, the Collector can be sort of a generic background character sort of like our bartender in TT.

That's what he said.

Or a hotel like Tenpenny Towers. But possibly close the the downtown area, like the Statesman hotel.

Please try to make this more unique than Tavern Tales set in FO3. Making a hotel, to be like the Tavern is kinda edging on redundant. Pick a unique setting so it's not boring, we don't need Tavern Tales in the Wasteland; I know you guys can be more creative than that. :P

Keep it up, this is coming together nicely. :)

A hotel sounds good. But something with a lower profile than TenPen

No a hotel does not sound good. A Tavern is a public house for travelers and others, a Tavern is an inn with a bar. The restrictions on this game before any of this started were that you needed to not rip off the Tavern Tales and just change the setting to Fallout. Hotel, is just Fallout speak for Tavern. Pick a different locale altogether, there are lots to choose from. :)

An abandoned vault with a healer, the 'Collector' would work too. And it would be a good way to bring in new characters. Since its an abandoned vault, there would be plenty of places to hole up for a while. And since he is a healer, it would be a good place for people to come back to and possibly protect. Perhaps even parts of the vault could be repaired if the right people with science skills show up. Work on getting the electric working, water and air filtration, that sort of stuff. Raid other vaults for needed repair equipment.

Plus there would be lots of exploring to do in a post nuclear world. Ruined buildings, hourses, corporations, stores.

Oookay. Well.
If the base, whatever it is going to be, is in downtown, then that greatly limits the ability of the characters to go to and fro. Realistically, no Average Joe could fight through DC, show up at the base, realize he left his spare pair of undies back in Vault 101, rerieve rhem, and return to the base. On the otherhand, somewhere like Bethesda Ruins or Fairfax gives players plenty of space.
Just throwing that out there.

There are a lot of rock cliffs in the central wasteland. For example, just south of vault 101 you could locate the vault/bunker/fallout shelter where the home base could be. Now that I think about it, a good place for a fallout shelter would be a door under a bridge off one of the major roads. It could be big enough to hold a lot of people if necessary and still be realatively protected.

Good thinking. Under an overpass sounds good. So are we going with the "Collector" idea as a backstory/way to start?

An old man who brings people in and heals them. He has his own reasons for doing it which we may never know. More mysterious that way.

So, a fallout shelter? That sounds good. I could post up some pictures of it since there is already one of them in the game under a bridge. :)

I will look for it. But, we could put it anywhere there is a bridge over a road.

We will probably want to work on the 'back story' for the RP first. Perhaps PM between those interested until its fully decided on? I dunno, just throwing out ideas. :)

Sorry to chop the limbs off a dead horse, but I had another idea for a base.

I hesitate to say "top secret," but perhaps an unfinished vault. Maybe one that was never completed, and never fitted with an iconic "vault door"

Just an idea.

If I might chip in my two cents here.....

For "the collector", possibly have him as a ghoul. Been around since the war. Perhaps he was one of the generals that order the button pushed, sees his ghoul status as 'punishment', and now he feels the need to atone for his sins. So, he spends his life helping others. He pays premium prices for healing meds, etc.

What about Evergreen Mills as a base? The characters could start somewhere else, and then work together to clear out raiders. I know it's a high-profile area, and not anything to do with a vault, but there's plenty of space outside, plenty of space inside, and two industrial buildings that are not used at all in vanilla Fo3.
Plus, I'm guessing everyone has already heard of it.
