.ESP / .esp It's causing problems

Hi all,

I'm making a mod and well BOSS isn't recognizing it, and neither is OBMM. the only thing I see is .ESP instead of .esp

could it be a problem?

BOSS only recognizes mods which have been reported to the team. It has no capacity to reposition mods that aren't in the masterlist.txt file.

I know about that but it isn't even showing up in the unrecognized mods section

I think he means it doesn't even show up in the unrecognized files in BOSS. I can't understand why OBMM wouldn't be able to find it. That sounds just inane to me. Yet the issue is on my end too.

Huh. Might have found a fix on my end. Just make it a .txt file for a second, then set to to .esp.

So are you saying the extension on the file being in caps is causing the problem?

We do not know if that is what is causing the problem. When I was testing, it not only doesn't not show up in either OBMM or BOSS, but it also prevents OBSE from running in my game. No one else reported experiencing that, but it may be related to the not showing up in OBMM or Boss.

That almost sounds like the file header may be corrupt. Is this an ESP you'd be able to link for download for someone else to take a look at?

windows isn't case sensitive. If you were running the game under WINE, and Linux, I can see how it might be a problem, but, windows? Shouldn't care at all. Gotta be more to it than that.

Windows might not be case-sensitive, but it doesn't always follow that applications responsible for processing filenames aren't: I'm not saying that's what's happening, but it is possible that something retrieving a list of filenames is specifically looking for ".esp" and not ".ESP" (or ".Esp" or whatever) depending on how it's been written, especially if it's written in such a way to further subdivide the list it's been given, i.e. into masters and plugins.

Regardless, I think it's safest to always give them lowercase names "just in case" (argh, terrible unintentional pun!)

Yeah, shoot it over my way. I changed several files to *.ESP and OBMM and Bash had no trouble with them at all. Didn't check BOSS but I don't see why it would either.
