How do you get an NPC to use a heal spell/potion?

How do you get an NPC to use a heal spell or potion while they are in the middle of a battle? I was thinking it had something to do with buff distance in the combat style of the misc. section in the CS. Am I wrong here?

Buff distance just means that they have to be this far away from enemies to use it. They really just use it when they get low on health. For the best AI however, try scripting in a forced healing spell at a certain health point (ie if GetAV Health <= [sOMETHING] Then Cast SPELL Self). Potions on the other hand I'm not totally sure if they ever use those...

I don't think they use heals potions consistently. Reason I say that is because during my testing with my WIP, I noticed once in a blue moon the potion effect displays and a small portion of health is healed.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to avoid scripting any more than I already have, but it could be done.
