Building a new rig

I'm looking to buy a new gaming rig but I'm not too good with this sort of stuff but was hoping for help. My budgets 1 - 1.2k (sterling) and it's primarily for gaming, something futureproof that will be able to run TES:V (if it's ever released that is.)

Also I live in the UK if that's important

Thanks in advance

One place you can try, not sure what the reputation is in the UK, but tigerdirect.com is affiliated with This Company

You can build your own starting with individual parts are buy a variety of barebones systems and configure them your self. As everyone has said you can get about twice as much system for your money if you build it yourself as opposed to having a prebuilt system.

Well in that case, pre-built would be better. Sometimes the better option isn't the best option for everyone.

From the linked site.

This one isnt too bad. Got a GTX460 videocard (I want  )Which should last you for a while, along with 6GB of ram and an i7 CPU, which is also compatible with the 6-core CPUs currently out but are super expensive, so it has good upgrade capabilities for the future.

Only thing you would need to get is a monitor and other accessories.

Im not too familiar with European sites, so take what I say with a grain of salt. If we were talking US, Id have something picked out and demanding you order it  jk.

Would this run Oblivion/Fallout on high settings?

My computer is 3+ years old and I run both games on the highest settings they will go. And my display settings are at 1920 x 1080 pixels. So any new computer with a decent graphics card should do you.

I did get a new video card, which is the most important piece of hardware in a games computer. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card with a 22" widescreen LCD monitor by Samsung. Its my opinion, but the Samsung monitors are the best quality out there for the money.

i have an ancient dell thats like 3 years old i bought at wallmart for 350$ usd (i dont know conversion rates) if you can wait for the christmas sales and buy you one like that (dells are good starters) and then upgrade it i put in a video card (its easy just look up instructions) and memory and it will run about anything medium or high settings

Also thanks Witty for the link, found this - http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/vortex-1000-gaming-pc/

Does this look any good? As standard it's £967 but there's a ton of options underneath, any reccomended extras to take it up to 1.2k?

Looks like an excellent system. I prefer this one to the one on Zoostorm, mostly because they give you the details of what it's built out of and it's all top quality stuff. (personaly I always stick with Seagate drives, but the WD are well reviewed) By the time you add the necessary accessories it takes you pretty well up to the 1.2K (Unless you have a monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers you're re-using?)

Montior: I love the new LED backlit screens and would lean towards the 22" or 24" Iiyamas.

Keyboard/Mouse: I'd stick with the inexpensive Logitech MK250 set. I never had a problem gaming with the lower end logitech sets, although lots of gamers insist you need to spend a fair bit more on a proper gaming mouse/keyboard. It's matter of personal prefference.

Speakers: Depends how you're room is setup. I still use a 2.1 set and am quite happy, the Logictech Z323.1 should do you just fine. On the other hand if you can do a decent job of setting up surround sound where your going to be placing the PC, it sure is nice. Basicly up to you if it will work in your room and if it's worth the extra 30.

Thanks, but the 1.2k budget was solely for the PC itself, I've set aside money for the rest of the set up. Do you have any reccomendations about altering the default specs?

Have a look at this system http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-159-OE&groupid=43&catid=1270&subcat=

Change the drop down for the SLi to the GTX460 option.

All you have to do is install a operating system and add the monitor/keyboard/mouse etc.

That system will run anything out atm and fits your price perfectly.

There are other systems on the site you can look at though.

This does look pretty good, and the reviews are promising

How much is windows 7 gonna set me back?

Don't know anything about Tiger Direct, but in my personal experience, Misco are a terrible company. Admittedly I haven't dealt with them for two-three years, but there's a good reason for that, which is that their customer service is atrocious. Shame, really; they couldn't be more helpful back when they were called Simply Computers, but the change in name seemed to precipitate a change in attitude. By which I mean for the worse. They're probably fine if nothing goes wrong, but considering how often problems tend to crop up with PC components, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Nowadays I just stick with Amazon whenever possible; they're seldom the cheapest, or even near to it, but at least they have a decent returns policy, unlike the vast majority of companies selling PC components.
