Da Mage's Morrowind Mods List

Posted Image

First off, this is written on the 24 December 2010, so these mods may be updated in the future.

About Morrowind:
Morrowind is a game that many will agree, the pinnacle of Bethesda RPGs, it has a rich full world of characters, plots and mysteries that offers hundreds of hours of gameplay. One of the big problems is that over the years as grahpics have improved, morrowind has gotten dated and looks pretty horrible in a visual sense. Fear not though, after many days downloading, testing and comparing I have created a stunning Morrowind graphics level to rival even Oblivion.

Pictures:
To prove it, these are some gameplay pictures (these have not been photoshoped or edited in any way). All but the first one also includes my framerate.

Technical Stuff:
Now I only get 13 - 18 FPS outside (which isnt too great), but I still get 25 - 30 FPS inside. These are my computer specs:
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 3328MB RAM
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

So as you can tell, this is not for the weak machine.

The Mods:
Now to the mods! Which Im sure everyone is waiting for.

Grahpics Tools:
Morrowind Graphics Extender XE

This is a new beta build of MGE, this has been created by a differentm odder who has made shadows for morrowind. It is missing a few features from the normal MGE (such as allowing MWSE scripted screen graphics), but I think its worth the sacrifice for shadows....they simply look amazing. Ill come back to this later when I go over my settings for MGEXE.

Textures Upgrades:
Connary's Textures (all his released textures)
Darknut's:
- Weapons
- Armor (The 1024 version)
- Better Clothing Textures (and hence also Better Clothes)
- Dwemer Ruins
Vurt's:
- HiRes Skies and Weather (requires SWG Skies v3)
- Lava and Smoke
- HiRes Scrolls and Menubook

Area Replacers:
Vurt's:
- Ascadian Isles Mod
- Ashalnds Overhaul BETA
- Bitter Coast Trees
- Grazelands Trees
- Leafy West Gash
- Mournhold Trees
- Solstheim Trees and Bushes Replacer

Body/Head Replacer:
Better Bodies
Better Heads (Complete head overhaul of all NPCs)

Visual Tweaks:
Windows Glow (Also have installed: Tribunal, Bloodmoon, Raven Rock, Windows Glow Texture Tweaks and Fixed Tavern Mesh)
Vurts Groundcover COMPLETE Reduced

Animations:
Dirnae Anim Mod

I will be adding more here as I find ones I like.

Patches:
Morrowind Code Patch (duh!)
Morrowind Patch Project

Other Tweaks:
Better Daedric (Fills the gaps between the deadic armor pieces to make it look nicer)
Complete Armor Joints (Same thing, the gaps between the armor are filled)
Graphic Herbalism (Plants turn 'picked' when you take the ingredients)
Pluginless NoGlow (Removes the plastic magic glow effect)
Vampire Hider (If your a vampire you can talk to people if wearing a full helm)
Delayed Dark Brotherhood Attack Add-On V2

So wow, thats all the mods Im using....bear in mind I like how the traditional morrowind looks, so I dont like to use full texture packs, I do like Connary's and Darknut's replacers cause they stay fairly true to the original texture, and Vurt's just look amazing.

I thought it was Sparta. :bagged:

Morrowind does look better and better, I have seen shots that look way better then any modern game. Now if only NPC and AI would be solved and it would be way better then anything. Maybe Open MW will change that one day, if they're still active.

Fliggerty is working on a huge AI mod that would bring it almost up to Oblivion levels.

A very timely list of mods and stuff there, since I've just reinstalled myself! Most helpful.

I'm really divided about the grass, however. It looks absolutely amazing, but enabling distant land even with the most conservative settings I can manage absolutely cripples my framerates; anything less than 30 or 40 tends to give me a headache, and this is often down to single figures depending on the area.

Fortunately it's possible to toggle distant land on or off with MGE by binding it to a particular keypress, so it's handy when one simply must take a screenshot. But afterwards, the dilemma: "it looks fantastic! But the performance sucks. But it still looks amazing! But I can't handle these framerates..." etc, ad nauseam. :bagged:
