SATA devices usually come with a cable. If not, your motherboard should as well. So no need to throw down for an individual cable.

As for your list. You don't need to worry about downloading DirectX as it will automatically install the necessary version from any game you try and play, plus Windows 7 already includes it.

The Windows Updates are not imperative and can just be held off for if/when you shut down your computer each night.

From the wholesaler i buy from, when you buy a hraddrive you dont get any cables.....however the motherboard shouold come with lots of cables, I had 4 sata cables in mine, so you should have enough for your drives.

The main board came with about three SATA cables, and I also ordered one extra to be on the safe side. The hard drives were salvaged from my previous rig, so I already had cables for them. I just needed a cable for the new DVD-ROM drive (old one was ATA-133, which my board doesn't support).

Well, at this point, I'm kinda stuck until I can get that wireless card in, as the rest of my to-dos require an internet connection. I've already playtested Oblivion for performance on the new rig, and vanilla can be run maxed out with the PC barely breaking a sweat, so I should be in good shape to re-import my previous install when that time comes.
