Unable to boot Ubuntu Linux Live CD

When I try to boot Linux from my Live CD to perform my backup I am getting a BusyBox with the following error message:

"Unable to find medium containing a live file system"

The disc works in the other computer that is used to boot it, and I only have one DVD-ROM drive installed, so can anyone give me a hand with this?

Does it need a control file installed on your hard drive maybe??

Actually, we were able to get it to boot off of a flash drive, but now we have a new problem: Linux is not seeing any of my hard drives.

It is not seeing ANY SATA device, actually.

Gonna have to load drivers for the SATA controllers. I think the various -ix operating systems see them as SCSI?? (and therefore want drivers...)

Neither my BIOS nor Windows have any problems finding my discs, it's just Linux.

How old is that LiveCD of yours? I ran a pair of linux servers here at the house for years and they had no issue locating the SATA drives from the installer media 5 years ago when I set them up. Ubuntu should be fairly well up to date even. Unless the specific hardware you have is too new or something.

I recommend search the ubuntu site for this error. I'm pretty sure we had the same problem, but it was so long ago, we don't remember what the fix was. But I know we found the answer in the ubuntu help somewhere - either in the fourms or one of the sites themselves. A general google seach should turn up something.
