Oblivion Freezing randomly

I just reinstalled oblivion after reinstalling windows 7. I have oblivion installed on a separate hard drive that's not my main drive.

I have only a few mods installed so far and was testing running around and whatnot, and Oblivion started freezing NOT CTDing

several of the times I had these freezes:

1) when I talked to a random NPC

2) running outside south of the IC

3) after talking to another NPC inside a building.

When it freezes, I have to restart the computer with the restart button on the tower!

I use the GOTY version so I am patched correctly.

All mods and files are updated.

BOSS'ed and Wrye patched.

Using a clean game save, at the end of the sewers. Has no mod dependency at all, not even SI or any other DLC's.

Update your Unofficial patches with the UOPSupplemental. Nothing to do with your freezing, just an observation.

For testing, first disable your bashed patch and try a test run (a good long run, not a 30 second run) in game. If that doesn't help, disable all mods and try again.

Didn't you mention you just updated your GPU drivers? That could possibly be another avenue to test if all else fails. Rollback the driver and test again.

I removed all mods and ran just OB, SI and the DLC's. and it still freezes.

I'll try reinstalling the old drivers, thank goodness I kept the drivers for it.

I had problems with a Kodak Printer(with Auto Update) that gave me fits.

Dsos, are you running an nVidia graphics card? nVidia's drivers lately have not been the greatest when it comes to reliability; they are currently having the issue of computers completely freezing for no good reason, especially with the larger, hotter running graphics cards. Why it does this, I have no idea.

Now you mentioned that you are running Windows 7. Are you running the 32 bit version of Windows 7, or are you running the 64 bit version? The 64 bit version of Windows 7 has a lot of misfits with Oblivion. You could try running Oblivion in compatibility mode and see what happens.

I have windows 7 64-bit, never had issues with it. Oblivion is installed on its own 300gb WD raptor 10k-rpm hard drive.

I already know about the latest Nvidia drivers. I'm rolling them back in a few minutes.

The only time I had it Freeze was with that Printer Driver, pretty sure it was whenever it tried checking for updates...

I'm running Win 7/64, I would tend to suspect a background process....

I lost my boot sector last week and wound up reinstalling *Windows, Windows dumped my original files into "Windows Old" directory, I just copy/pasted my saves back, Ovlivion was untouched on a seperate drive, all I had to reinstall was Python for BASH and DX9, everything sems to be rubbibg fine.

I had got it fixed, but had further issues with the CS. So I reinstalled windows. So far everything is running good.
