RAM question

Well again...in my travels I`ve always wondered about the RAM timing spec. Like...I`ve seen something like 9-9-9-24...Curious to see if this is something that might bear on compatability with my other sticks...performance...etc. Again...what is it and how important is it..? Thank you all again.

the lower the numbers the faster the memory runs. its Latency pretty much.

Timings are numbers such as 3-4-4-8, 5-5-5-15, 7-7-7-21, or 9-9-9-24, the lower the better. I'm really not sure about the very last number, but I try to get the FIRST THREE numbers as low as possible.

Ah...that could explain the reasonable prices on the ones I`m looking at. I wonder about compatabilities though. My existing ones are the 9-9-9-24 .

For compatiblity it is highly recommended that you get your memory all at one time. Even using the same memory can be different from batch to batch. Best bet is use the same kind regardless

The Version number is a big thing also. two different version numbers can have two different effects.

You also need to read the memory requirements for your motherboard. You can't just stick any memory in there. Some motherboards will only accept memory with certain timings, so you might be stuck with 9-9-9-24 or whatever.

Thank you AndalayBay...yup...my MoBo is particular about RAM and the ones I`ve got are good to go so I figured I`d just add 2 more.
