Word 2010 Starter

I'm having some trouble opening Word documents. When I try, an error message appears saying Word 2010 Starter couldn't be opened. (Please try again or repair the program in Control Panel.) How do I do that?

Sounds like the install went bad... Did you install from a Disc or was it pre-installed?

What windows do you have? XP, Vista, 7?

Windows 7, and it was pre-installed. I sincerely wish I could install Word 2003 instead.

2010 isn't bad, it does take some time to get use to it.

If it was pre-installed, I'm not sure how you can reinstall it. Might try going to Start >> Control Panel >> Program and Features >> Then find the Office on the list and right click and see if there is a "repair" option.

If you can't repair it, I would download on of the following, I've used both and like them, they are free and open source:

Open Office

Libre Office

Both are great alternatives and both are able to save in MS office format also.

I prefer Libre Office over Open Office as I think the layout is a little bit better/easier on the eyes.

If it was preinstalled then you should have backup disks that came with the computer or based on manufacturer the option to burn the setup disks. If repair option isn't available through the control panel's Programs and Features section your setup disk should have to original install files on it.
