Welcome to the Final Exam

 

Wow we're finally here, we have arrived at the final challenge in the Graphic Artistry course, time to put all that you've learned to the test and see what you can accomplish on your own.

 

You can refer back to the lessons if you need to, but do try and complete as much as you can without the tutorial crutch; challenge yourself and those newly won skills. If you have been diligent in completing the homework and challenges throughout this course, you will be able to complete this exam with ease so don't be nervous. :good:

 

The Exam

 

This Final Exam is worth 30pts toward your Graphics Artistry Basics Medal. Please remember to post both in-game screenshots and screenshots from your 2D application of choice at various stages, when you have finished so you can earn the full credit for your hard work.

Requirements

 

For the Final Exam you're going to re-texture the Blades Armor, the changes are quite extensive.

 

Part 1: The Cuirass

 

 

  • Change the padding from a fabric material to a chainmail texture
  • Change the leather texture, make it look new, give it a lighter colour
  • Change the large metal plating from a smooth metal to a rougher, more dirty metal
  • Create a new Normal Mop
  • Create a new Environment Map

 

 

Key:

 

Blue - This is the metal plating

Green - Padded Material

Red - Leather Belt

Part 2: Boots, Gauntlets, Greaves

 

 

  • Change the blue fabric to chainmail
  • Change the metal on the boots from a smooth metal to a rougher, more dirty metal
  • Make a new Normal Map for the Boots
  • Make a new Environment Map for the Boots

 

Part 3: The Shield

 

 

  • Change the Blue colour to something different, the colour used is up to you.
  • Shield looks too clean, make it dirty.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to learn. I really did learn a lot and enjoyed this immensely.

IS,

I would like a clarification of terminology, relating to the GA Final.

You ask for: "Make a new Normal Map for the Boots" and I have no problem.

However, when you ask for: "Make a new Environment Map for the Boots" I do need clarification.

In the extracted BSA files I have two DDS files relating to Boots:

1/ bladesboots_n.dds The Normal Map -

2/ bladesboots.dds This I call the Texture MAP

When you ask for an " Environment Map " I take it that you want a file that I expect to be either:

3/ bladesboots_e.dds

or

4/ bladesboots_M.dds

and, since neither came in the BSA extracts, while I could make an Environment Mask/Map (_M.dds) and try making an Environment Map (_e.dds),

I do not have the knowledge required to add either of these last two (_M.dds or _e.dds) file types to a Nif file that does not already contain them.

So, when you say "new Environment Map" are you asking for the newly revised "bladesboots.dds", or one of the two other types shown in 3/ and 4/ above?

My Final exam has been put in form of a PDF, which seemed a better way than overloading my TESA Gallery.

IS I have added the optional Blades Helmet, with the modifications I wanted to try. I did not do them before, because I was unsure I could do what I wanted. But, I am pleased with the results, so I have posted them. Thanks again for all the information you passed on to everyone.
