Oblivion Construction Set crash on start

I know Oblivion is older but I would still like to mod it since I don't own Skyrim.

Here's my problem I installed the CS on the computer Oblivion is on. I got the file off of The Elder Scrolls Construction Set Wiki. Every time I open the construction set it immediately crashes and says TES construction set has stopped working windows is searching for a solution. Then it gives me the option to close the window. This happens for version 1 and 1.2.404.

The computer specs needed are

-Minimum System Requirements:

* Windows XP

* 512MB System RAM

* 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor

* 8x DVD-ROM Drive

* 4.6 GB free hard disk space

* DirectX 9.0c (included)

* 128MB Direct3D Compatible Video card and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver

* DirectX 8.1 Compatible Sound Card

* Keyboard, Mouse

My system has

* Windows 7

* 3.0 Gb ram

* Intel core 2 quad CPU with 2.4 GHz

* Not sure about DVD-ROM drive but I have one.

* I have plenty of hard drive

* I have the Intel g33/g31 express chipset family

* Not sure about sound card but I don't think it would affect the boot up

Any help you could give would be great because I'm stumped.

Post the error you're getting if you can. Run the CS and when it crashes, expand the error message. If it's a BEX error, that's easy to fix.

Also make sure you dropped the exe into the Oblivion root folder, not the Data folder.

And hopefully you didn't install Oblivion into Program Files?

That's only an issue for 64-bit versions of Windows 7 & Vista, the 32-bit versions don't have the extra security. If you have a Program Files (x86) folder, then you have the 64-bit version. Otherwise, you have the 32-bit version.

I don't run it out of the "program files (x86)" but I do have a "programs file" which I run it out of but it is within several files I don't belive that's the issue though. I have copied the files to my desktop and the same error occurs. It will not allow me to expand the error message itself but is there a log that I could check for more specifics.

That would be why..... woefully inadequate to the task. Need a real vid card.

I was afraid of that. Thank you. But it says that you need a minimum of 128Mb mine has 256Mb so it should be able to start the program at the very least.

Is that dedicated, or shared RAM?

The intel onboard video solutions are rather weak, and the CS actually needs more video horsepower than the game......

If you have a PCIe-x16 slot on your mobo, pic up a decent video card. You can get rather nice ones for around 150 or so. I paid around 140 and some change for an HD 6850. Works GREAT. make sure your power supply is up to the task for your new vid card. If you are on a laptop, upgrades are rarely possible though...
