Well we managed to fill up my original thread, and since there`s still so much to explore in the ongoing development of the PC you`ve all helped me to build, here`s the new place to follow the growth of Bessie.

Lilith asked in the shouty about my power supply. It`s a Corsair CMPSU - 750TX. She also asked me to include a dxdiag, but I`ll have to add that in a bit.

With the upgrade to an i7 2600k CPU, and a tower type fan, I`ve got lots of tweaking to do. I`m not going to push any limits here but using the basic ASUS auto tune function was able to settle at around 4.4 GHz staying between 40 - 60C.

The other night, playing skyrim on ultra with FXAA enabled and my HD6850 GFX card maxed, it cut out on me so...that`s a bit much. I`ll be dialing things back to find a more stable config. Meanwhile I`ve killed the autotune and am running the cpu at default (Which is still very impressive).

Yay! I'm glad to see you've started a new thread. One small note... There's a typo in your video card model number

I think we're all prone to do that donnato, get the upgrade done slam all the sliders on a game and been surprised when we have to back them off a tad bit. I'm most certain you'll find a happy spot for the OCing and slider adjustments for games.

Okay, I can tell you better frame rates in more than three words too. You'll need to check that your power supply can handle and will have enough overhead to run the cross-fire setup. You can do that HERE very easily by entering what you have and what you want, let it calculate for you and compare their answer to what you have.

Cross-fire will grant you more FPS, what it will not do is make any game prettier or better than it is, it's not like a magic answer but it will give you increased performance. Even with cross-fire there are limitations to how each game will play, not all games will allow "pegging" of the settings, even with cross-fire.

With that said, I would be running cross-fire if I could afford it.

That's the fun part, figuring it out. j/k There are tutorials galore, plenty to start reading up. You will want to plug the monitor into the number one card, although it really doesn't matter. Here's a quick reading tutorial on setting up crossfire Clicky It starts with removing the "old card and drivers" but continues on where you're interested the steps to installing the setup.

No crossfire support for Skyrim. But AMD says they are working on it. I hear you can bypass things using RadeonPro. You should look into that.

You won't see much of an improvement with multi video cards. The games just don't scale that well with them. In my view, certainly not enough of an improvement to justify the cost. But.... if ya got the bucks to spend, it sure as shootin' ain't gonna HURT your framerate.

ATI Tray Tools by Ray Adams will show you all the info you ever wanted to see, plus, allow you to 'adjust' things on your card. (overclock.) It's free, and has a lot less of a foot print than catalyst control center. (getting rid of which, will ALSO improve performance.... go figure.)

I used it with my old 4890 card, and didn't have any issues with it.... worked fairly well. Haven't installed it again since upgrading to the 6850.

I've got an HD6950 now.

I have to correct myself here, I don't think it was so much it didn't run and provide video card info (FPS and the like), but it no longer had any support for other motherboard monitors and without that I've no use for it. However, I'll also admit after having my foray of using CCC and MSI Afterburner which are both very excellent in comparison to Tray tools, I don't bother with any of it anymore.
