Help with earth warrior

I have the earth warrior book, read it and returned to sakai, now I'm not new to games or puzzles but I just can't figure out how to finish this test! is it me just being brainless?

Sakai tells me to draw my sword, prepare and face him in battle, but he just stands there. I've tried everything, I've read and reread the book but can't figure Sakai and this test out nothing seems to work. What am i missing? call me thick if you want to lol. :!:

Are you equipping your training katana? The test must be done with the training blade any other blade and he'll just stand there and wait.

Thank you for your reply, I did finally figure it out, I am such a twit and yes I was trying to do it with the katana I received from a previous quest.
