Mod Detectives: Thread 01

Recommended Posts

I can't find a Mod Detectives thread here like the one for Oblivion so I thought why not have a thread here too. :)

Note: I suggest that you search on MMH first before posting here and use this http://mw.modhistory.com/search-au-+author link to list all mods an author has on MMH. There is also a special priority about the ElricM site.

http://mw.modhistory.com/search-au-+author >> http://mw.modhistory...rch-au-Leonardo - can be found in any mod entry on MMH, but if you have a problem with the links on MMH then let us know so they can be fixed.

This is what happen lately in the Morrowind community, but it also affect the other games too.

DarkOne recently split the old TES Nexus site into two separate sites for both Morrowind and Oblivion with new prefixes for each site

PES has also changed since the departure of APY and IGN recently stopped their support of PES

FilePlanet is now closed since IGN decided to shut it down and started to archiving everything on FilePlanet

The Mod Detective threads were started up by GrayskiesRooster to help folk find mods that are missing, hard to locate, obscure or not available on public download sites.

General Enquiries

This is not intended as a general enquiries thread. It is assumed that you are trying to find a specific mod, that you have made serious efforts to look for it yourself and that you will provide some identifying information so others can help you. Or as Gren put it:

So, if you want to know if such-and-such kind of mod exists or which mods other folk think are suitable for your purpose please ask those questions in a new and separate thread.

Before You Post Here

Please do your best to find the mod yourself. Most 'missing' mods can be found on Yacoby's TES Search (cannot search atm) and Fliggerty's Morrowind Modding History. Even the Internet Archive Wayback Machine can sometimes find lost mods.

Also previous Mod Detectives threads on BSF are worth checking as your question may already have been answered.

Psyringe's excellent Morrowind Mod Hunter's Guide , is a useful read before you ask here.

If you find a broken link or a link isn't correct then please let me know so that I can update the OP. Thanks. :)

I was wondering if anyone has an archive of Niero's mods? I checked MMH and have googled specific mods of Niero's. Most of the time I get broken links to Elric's site. The only working links I can find are for:

CDR AshlanderGarb @ PES (The PES CDR Thin Clothes Addon has a broken link)

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=669

And someone uploaded a copy of CDR Thin Clothing Mod to Nexus

http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/582/?tab=3&navtag=%2Fajax%2Fmodimages%2F%3Fuser%3D0%26id%3D582

I love Niero's works and would appreciate any help finding the rest of his mods.

In case you're not aware of this, but ElricM is now a defunct site and here is more information about it.

Also check MMH again because OldeCow69 had a recent database backup for most mods on ElricM, so if you want to know more about what happen with the mods on ElricM then I suggest that you talk with Jac since he's a High Magister on GHF and he'll have more inside information than me about those mods.

Hiddely ho, Fellow Morrowinders!

Be warned: This message is a tad long, but thoroughly explains my plight.

I am STILL searching for "Sheol's Female Dremora Armour Mod" and will not stop until I find it. This mod was the first BB armour mod I ever D/L'd and...I. WANT. THIS. MOD. again before I become dust in the wind. I have a very strong sense of nostalgia - and eternal regret for not making a backup in 2005 (this is when the mod was first made public) and before 2009 (when the mod became unavailable due to "oblivionsource.com"'s site upgrade and the mod D/L link dying in the process.) I have been searching ever since my Great HD Crash of 2010 (actually since 2009 when the UESP link died).

I have searched "oblivionsource.com" via Teh Wayback exhaustively, I.E. Every. Single. Link. I have found possible clues as to the name of the file. I have searched 4Shared, DepositFiles, RapidShare, DropBox, and even the latest incarnation of Mega. Pretty much every obscure Morrowind site via Teh Wayback has been searched (there are other pages too); I have left few stones unturned up to this point. The only clues I have are the "Texture Replacer Mod" I U/L'd to MMH (with the filename "PLAYABLE_DREMORA_NL_bb_bodysuit_uvr_main_11.tga" since it's a straight texture replacer) and the filename "PDP_cuirass_fem_FIXED.rar" discovered in "oblivionsource.com" via Teh Wayback (but no file available).

Since I can read Russian, I have also searched a myriad of Russian FTP's and Morry sites (most notably Tesall.ru, Fullrest.ru, and Tiarum.RU). I have resorted to searching torrents and sleazy public hubs via DC++ and eMule as a last gasp of hope. The taste of failure is indeed bitter....

I have even contacted a couple of Olde Modders of Yore who/are were familiar with Sheol/SATAN's (they are one and the same) work (including a legend of Morry modding - Mr. Dave, who searched his 200+ disc archives for me, to no avail) and success is appearing dim. I even scoured Reddit and found a "Sheol", who was discussing Morrowind, and alas, not the same one. I found Neuman, Father of BB, on Reddit also, but he doesn't have it either.  Mr. Dave has also put out the clarion call on Lover's Lab (yuck!) with no success from a number of users and only a user, "Black Dragon," (then BlackDragon32 on PSD Studios) yet to report success or failure...

As for Bethsoft Forums, there is this "Mod Detectives" thread for tracking down mods lost to the ether. I have REQ this mod twice in a two year period, and it has been REQ at least four times...with success as elusive as this mod. *cries bittlerly*

I am about ready to do just about anything (within reason, and I *AM* offering a reward to the equivalent of $50 USD - couldn't post that on Bethsoft forum) short of prostituting myself and/or selling my 1 year child in some weird Morgiah/Rumpelstiltskin-esque bargain to procure this mod again.

Please, Obi Wan Morrowinders, help me relive some of my fondest gaming memories if you can...you all appear to be one of my last hopes...

Graciously thanking you for your reading.

Have you looked on Morrowind Modding History over at Great House Fliggerty?  If you can't find it at the first link, join up at GHF, and post there. It has always been my go-to site for obscure morrowind mods. :)

Yes, I have...well, You!  *giggle*

MMH I check often; the only time I didn't is when the "search" option @ MMH was discombobulated.  Otherwise, I have checked there since its inception.   As I posted, I U/L'd the texture replacer for this very mod to MMH(it was on an old win 98 IDE drive about which I had forgotten - I checked out of desperation and found a few mods.  But not the one for which I am looking.)

In fact, WRT MMH, I worked closely with Spirithawke (the current curator of MMH) to find this wayward mod - he wants to find it as much as I do.  Spirithawke concluded this mod unrecoverable at the time, and I stubbornly refused to give up.

GHF has an older thread, started 2008 (which became MMH, by the by), that has the mod, for which I am looking, listed as an MIA mod - meaning no one has yet found it.   In fact, most, if not all, of the frequent GHF visitors also frequent the Bethesda Forum.  I am also a member of Wolflore, stewarded by Jac and M'Lady Elaura, a wholly owned subsidiary of GHF Productions, and if isn't there, it's not on GHF either.

When I wrote I have, "...left few stones unturned,", meaning I re-check currently active sites and databases constantly (and have since 2009, in addition to finding new stones to upturn), I wasn't kidding.  *smiles*  Check the links I posted, and look at the page with obscure links as well.  I have checked and re-checked every one of them within Teh Wayback.

Thank you for the suggestion and the response, You.  *giggle*

I see your point. :) I found a few of your posts in some out of the way places, looking for it though. :) You HAVE been thorough..... I think your best bet is posting on the beth, morrowind mods forum, in hopes that someone else may have it, and email it to you...... Unfortunately, a fair few Morrowind mods have disappeared into the depths of the internet.....

Fixed. :P

Speaking of which, when are you coming back? We miss you. :(

Since you know Sheol's alias have you search for the "SATAN" author on MMH yet, because I know that some modders had hosted their mods on different community sites over the years for more than 1 username(s) meaning Sheol/SATAN were probably an active modder back then and perhaps also a member on at least 2-3 forums in which at least one forum Sheol had a different username due to various reasons e.g Sheol already taken.

I also know that there is a lot of mods on MMH that has a strange filename like this - ID5636_2_26_Playable_Faces_Pack_v_2_20040928.rar - for a reason(s).

1. Once were hosted on the old MMH site (now defunct)

2. Transferred from a defunct site e.g Gamers Roam

Check any mod that's sorted in the Unprocessed category on MMH for a similar filename, although you still need to download it though.  Also browse the old MMH site and if you found it there then post a link here.

I know all this since I once were the first Senior Curator on MMH almost 4 years ago (man time rushes by) and I know there is still a little chance that you could find the mod you're looking for.

Good luck!

Oh, Jac!!!  **HUGGIES**

I haven't forgotten you kind people!   I have missed you as well!    I will be back when I get finish the BB Tamriel Rebuilt Armour (I have finished the Goblin Armour, (which actually can be a mod in itself)!  I had to teach myself rigging and more layering tricks in Max.  I also need to message Moranar, I haven't done so since Moranar released "Better Robes".

As I wrote on the Official, we have a daughter and my Daddy passed, and dealing with those things has been (and still is)....Challenging.

Good luck!

The modder "SATAN" has exactly one page of eponymously authored mods; with direct attribution, exactly one page + one more entry.   The name "Sheol", as I have on good authority, was adopted by "SATAN" after he/she/it was called out for allegedly "questionable modding practices".

Searching for another "Sheol" or permutation thereof had been laborious at best, and weeding through what forums are left of the time has been an exercise in hair pulling, with few strands left.  The one clue, the **MOST IMPORTANT** clue is the file name.  The. One. Thing. I. Didn't. Memorise.   **Kicks younger, idiot, lack of foresight possessing tiebrakre.  HARD!**

Insofar as GHF threads WRT anything related to MMH, I still search these periodically, even older ones.  I knew about those defunct links (and Teh Wayback is dismal at recording threads beyond the first page).  I have made a habit of testing permutations of "%20" within filename combinations for google searches and searching discrete file sharing (4Shared, DropBox, etc.).

Wolflore, GHF's **SISTER** *giggles* site, specialises in hard to find, more Adult oriented mods, and Sheol's Armour mod qualifies (it's design is similar to Cenobite's (in)famous works of great sensuality and outright sleaze).  It's not there either.

WRT checking "Unprocessed Mods" within MMH, I do that also.   I have D/L'd so many mods from MMH that I could almost qualify as a legit off site respository (kept on laptop HD's - hooray for a multi port USB dongle for reading HD's)!

I'm **convinced** the best chance of success is to find a Modding Legend of Yore who possesses the file on some old HD or CD/DVD back up.   Aleanne and Dave Humphrey are currently in the contact works (Aleanne has yet to respond, and will try Dave Humphrey this week).

I **EVEN** joined Facebook (something I swore to Sod Himself I would never do) to increase my chances to find the mod.  If I have to pat/pad Zuckernerd's data mining/advertising pocket to succeed, so be it. *GRRR*

And will keep doing so thoroughly until I find it. *grits teeth to the gums*

In almost a year, from late November last year until yesterday, there has been a server issue on GHF due to a server migration that failed. Which Fliggerty finished yesterday.

Now, both GHF and MMH is back and ready to serve modders and mod users of Morrowind.

One need to clear the cookies in the browser and doing that should work.
