In a nutshell, how do I tell Windows it's okay to move files into Program Files?

You have to turrn off UAC (User Account Control), but that's a bad idea. It's usually best to install applications outside of that folder.

You must 'Take Ownership' of the folder. Right click 'Program files' then click properties> security> advanced> owner. Then change from 'Trusted Installer' or 'System' to yourself.

You should be able to copy into the folder following these steps.

*sigh* I should know this by now; I've already had to move Morrowind and Oblivion.

While for the novice users UAC is fine, I haven't used UAC since beta testing Win7.. I use a good firewall and anti-virus and I watch where I go on the internet. Unless your pretty diligent about what you do and you have decent protection then UAC is a must have for the majority of users.

What Arion said but you can also use UAC on the highest level and that could help too in case you didn't know.
