2012 Halloween Challenge Poll

Hey Guys, it's that time again, time for TESA to get her annual spook on!

Last year's challenge was a bit abysmal, so few challengers, so few completed and functional entries there wasn't enough content to flesh out all the work those of us on the tech side invested to even make a functional mod. So this year, before I started shifting gears to another Halloween Challenge and investing my time and the time of others, I wanted to see what sort of interest there is.

I will be joining up. Might only do 2 or 3 cells this time, but still loads of fun

I'd like to join, just school makes it difficult but also my skills for skyrim are minimal. If we can get a good turnout this year I'll see if I can get something going.

I'd definitely love to see one happen, but right now I'm buried in too much other stuff to get involved in one.

For a prize, how about a 1 year membership to this site?

I would rather the prizes did not cost the site actual money, since it already costs money to keep the site hosted. But that is just my opinion.

Skyrim'een!

I don't have the skills to make a mod, but I'm available to anyone for minor model edits / texturing.

I'm wondering how you're going to get around the fact there's no tool for merging things together?

I'd like to but right now I'm not sure how things are going to turn out next month as far as being able to work on any projects. Depends on what happens after Oct 4th when I go in for tests to the hospital.

Hana, I found the workaround for the merging.. it's very time consuming and if you're not careful, you'll miss a ton of stuff, especially those that have special references.

I'm wondering how you're going to get around the fact there's no tool for merging things together?

The CK's version control system would work, but that's a big pain to set up. There are no other tools available yet that can do the job.

There is the duplicate method.. but that is painfully tedious to do(I've done it for the group project I'm working on) Once it's all merged... everything is smooth sailing.

Well I'm wishing I'd dedicated some time to learning Skyrim scripting before college really got going, but I would love to take a crack at it. Even if I don't end up producing anything I'd love to see the end product. I think that Skyrim's release and the many associated upheavals were what stopped last year's challenge from taking off. This time round, everyone's had almost a year to get comfortable with Skyrim, so I would expect a lot of enthusiasm.

EDIT: I just went into the CS to look at my entry from last year. I'm trying to remember what exactly it was about bloodthirsty sheep that so enthralled me...

I would like to see some entries that do not rely on scripts. And if you really get stuck and really want scripts, I am always available to 'help' you out. I will not be writing anyone full scripts.

I cant believe it, it's actually happening! Well, planes for it anyways tbh, I was kinda affraid of this not be continued over to Skyrim. With last Oblivion project and all...

Anyways, I've just started my mod carreer doing a school project. So I won't take part in this year's. But wish you all the best and I really hope you will manage it!

Not to be "that guy", but will there be a yay or nay on this soon? It is about a week past the point when the previous challenges were announced, and there's always kind of a scramble.

I do notice though, that there are only five yesses and one maybe, but then only 13 people actually responded.

The first challenge started on October 1st

I'm not sure there's enough interest by way of actual participants to roll this year; those who have voiced interest have only committed to something small. Skyrim Modding is still quite in it's infancy, our lack of tools for proper, efficient merging and cleaning will present challenges.

We will be having a challenge but it's going to be a bit different than past challenges. I will post the official thread today.

Well smaller is fine by me Like you say, the community is still finding its feet, this way the tradition is kept alive and we have something to show for halloween. I shall eagerly await the announcement

It's unlikely I'll be contributing as my perennial fatigue is still menacing me, but by way of random comment I'd like to see it get off the ground and hope the contest is a success.
