Full onboard system backup

Ok Hiya folks...I`ve got a partition dedicated to system backups. It`s half full of old BUs and I`d like to delete those in favor of a current one. Is this advisable?

EDIT: after deleting the folder I`m showing 841 free of  863GBs ... backup attempts all failed ...

Should always perform your current backup and verify it is in tact before removing the old backup.

Ideally you would have several layers of backup.

I BkUp to an external HD through the week, and then once a week move the most current to my NAS, where I maintain  2, or 3 BkUps.

The trouble of using a partition to hold your BkUps, Don, is losing the HD might take the partition with it...

Ok...it was saying that I didn`t have enough available space...BS ...I whittled my C drive down to 112 GBs...and tried to save to a drive with 841 GBs free ...still failed..I can`t find anything that helps online.

Why aren't you using a backup software program other than windows? If you have a Western Digital drive go get http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119&wdc_lang=en'> This from Western Digital. Its a free version of Acronis True Image software and it let's you backup with compression so you aren't copying full sized drives or partitions.

 

Norton stopped selling Norton Ghost but you might be able to find it on ebay. I think the last version is 15 and they have a new backup software out if I'm not mistaken.

I have Seagate drives..sooo... No budget right now for s/w ...

thing is...why doesn`t the windows BU util. work...? What`s blocking it...? Worked before..why not now..?

I will never up my BUs to a "cloud" site ...what the hell ?  ... how hackable is that..? I`ll go offline with a fried ball of metal ...before that. I can`t believe there isn`t any other solution.

You missed the whole point.. Cloud backup is optional, not default !!!
