CK Basics: Lesson #2

You need to track the navmesh up the ladder. The top floor and bottom should be one big piece of navmesh. The yellow border lines should only be along the outside edge, the yellow border going through your doorway indicates two separate meshes and should be one connected piece instead. Keep practicing

I'm working on putting some clutter around my space.  I ran a havoc simulation, and my book case kind of flew apart.  I know I can disable havoc settling, but that's not the problem.  I am trying to "unsettle" the books.  Is there a way to do that?  The bounding boxes are still on the shelf, but the rendered objects are all over the floor.  If I reposition them, they stay where they were.  Am I going to have to delete all of my books and refill the shelves?

Sooo....  I've done the nav meshing on my house twice now, checked it and it said no errors, but every time I hit "Save" it all disappears?? No nav meshing left anywhere that I can see.  I've tried toggling the views, but still see nothing.  "W" just gives me a grey screen.  What am I doing wrong?  Do I need to hit Finalize before I save?  I was afraid to in case that was permanent, and I needed to change something later..

I still don't know why my nav mesh was disappearing on me before, but it is staying now anyway.  Here is my homework, let me know if you need more nav mesh pics?  I have a screen shot from under the house for the bottom floor, as it was hard to get good viewing angles without including a ton of pics.  I also tested the house with a follower to tweak anything wonky, and ended up taking some of the plates away from the table settings, as they were just so wobbly unless the food was perfectly balanced.   The only glitchiness I still have is that when someone sits at one table, all the forks on both tables like to immediately fall through onto the floor.  I think maybe raising them off the table slightly more might fix that though.

Looking pretty good Darktendril. The spot between the chairs where you've linked one node is incorrect, NPCs can't path over one node. Either move the chairs apart more to allow for a complete path or just omit the node.

You have also patched right up to the edge of things, it looks like you may be so close to the walls that you're actually clipping through them. You don't need to path every inch of space, just the navigable space. Path the areas people would walk or stand. We don't generally stand right against a wall so leave a bit of space.

Just make those tweaks and you can move on! :good:

Fixed!  I had the space nav meshed between the chairs thinking it would help NPCs sit, not really intending them to try to walk in between (oops).  I've disconnected it, and moved other nodes further away from everything.  (also fixed the fork thing, and moved the lute onto a shelf so it wouldn't get kicked)

Hi dolphin, not a bad effort, just a couple notes on your Navmesh. The whol mesh should be one piece so the yellow line should not cross a section of pathing but only be on the outer edge. In your 3rd image you have a seam where two yellow lines are placed side by side, this will block the pathing there, it's a broken path. Adjust your nodes to get that yellow line along just the edges.

Also, you need to path around he bar stools, not under them. Otherwise character will continually be running into the stools thinking its a clear path :D

Just a couple tweaks and you can head to Lesson #3

Hi Gr1phn, nice effort, very close to perfect but you appear to have the same broken path issue as dolphin at the top of the stairs. Make sure that Navmesh is one solid piece with no overlapping seams! You can head to Lesson 3 after tidying that up :good:

Good morning,

Got it, and thanks for your encouraging response. I took a look around while I was in there and found another offending broken path in the bedroom door ... it was hidden by the angle of the screengrab I sent ... both are fixed. Navmeshing was less scary than I thought it would be. Phew.

Assignment

  • Add additional place setting to your table/s
  • Add a complete set of books to the bookshelf
  • Finish cluttering your interior using materials found in Misc Items, Book, Statics, and Armor
  • Complete the NavMesh for the interior

Extra Credit

  • Add food from Ingredient and wine from Magic>Potions
  • Add a FarmHouseDoor01 from WorldObjects>Door (We will link doors in Lesson #3)
  • Add another custom container by changing a container ID, then editing the contents.

-Added two settings to the table, matching the ones in the Shelf on the lower floor

-Added a shelf with a set of books on the Dwemer and a set of general books

-General Cluttering done

-navmesh done (Dammn, Navmeshing is annoying ._. )

-Added a door

-Already had custom containers (The end tables are empty), but added another one to the lower floor; was missing one there anyway

-Already had food, added a sweetroll for good measure ^_^

-May have accidentally bumped the basket with the paper, visible in the last two pictures.

Edit 2: Added a few more cluttery things here and there. The Table now also has an actual complete set of Diningware. Also, the Animation Markers are now Visible; including the invisible Chair marker on the Wood Cutting Block for player use.

I know the PrintScrn Method - but that makes a screenshot of the whole screen, including my task bar and my desktop, both of wich I don't really want to share publicly. Might try using Fraps, thanks ^_^

Edit 2: Great, Fraps worked. Here are the Navmesh Pictures then!CreationKit 2016-09-28 09-16-28-25.jpgCreationKit 2016-09-28 09-16-53-46.jpgCreationKit 2016-09-28 09-17-50-63.jpgCreationKit 2016-09-28 09-18-06-56.jpgCreationKit 2016-09-28 09-18-26-87.jpg

@DukeCybran Not a bad effort, Navmesh needs a fresh start though. You want your mesh to be one solid piece top floor to bottom, there should only be a yellow line around the edge of the room, never cutting through the space. Imagine those yellow borders as floor to ceiling walls, your characters can't cross them. Give it another go, it is challenging at first but you'll get it with practice :ok:
