My Frankenbeast is giving up the ghost, slowly. So its time to look into some new parts. Namely:

1. Motherboard

2. CPU

3. Memory - 8GB

4. Power Supply - At least 750 watt

and possibly:

5. Video card - I currently have an ATI Radeon HD 6950 w/2GB PCI express

I have a big case, good condition.

I have a keyboard and mouse for input.

I have dual monitors, one is DVI and the other is HDMI.

I have a sound blaster sound card which is PCI.

I have Logitech 7.1 speakers with sub-woofer.

I have 3 SATA hard drives.

What was I looking at?

Motherboard - something with PCI 3.0 slot for a next-gen video card.

CPU - Probably middle of the road here. Was thinking about the 'server' CPU.

Memory - 8GB, I want GOOD memory. I do not want cheap here... The motherboard will take up to DDR3 3000. Good for upgrades later, since its very expensive right now.

I will not be overclocking the CPU.

I currently have a Zalman solid copper core cyclone radiator heat sink (without the LED)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223

I also currently have a pretty good video card, so the GFX card could wait a while as well.

XFX ATI Radeon HD6950 2 GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/2x Mini-Displayport PCI-Express Video Card

http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-Mini-Displayport-PCI-Express-HD695XCDFC/dp/B00568KKOW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1395885094&sr=8-2&keywords=xfx+hd6950

The Liquid cooler and GFX could wait until later. It all depends on how much (if any) of a tax return I get.

Why do you want to buy DVD-ROM while for the same price you can have DVD-Burner? ROM means Read Only Memory so you can only read DVD discs with that drive you posted link to. With the burner you can also write your own discs (it may come in handy sometimes, you'll never know ;)

Thanks for the suggestions :D

I thought I had the DVD Burner, but guess not. Good catch!

How about this one?

ASUS 24X DVD Burner - Bulk 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS - OEM

That is a nice setup Arion, quite a bit of power there.

But I am holding out for a MB with the PCI 3.0 slot for future upgrades. It will probably be another 7 years before I can buy another computer so I would like it to be upgradeable.

I an unfamiliar with the Xeon line. I do know and trust the i7 line. Since you won`t be clocking .. the Haswell will be fine. For the price though... (unless you really want to stay with intel) ... Arion`s link might be a good way to go. I`m thinking about that myself for an AMD build I`m planning.

I certainly do not want problems with games. I was more going for the cooler running temps because the bridge is smaller, and the 'graphics' capability which I do not need. It was also rated pretty high and cheaper than all the other chips in the benchmark tests.

Thanks HeyYou, this gives me something to think about...
