[SKY] Babe in the Woods Wants to Fix Skyrim Mod

The questions first, then my story:

 

1.  I want to figure out enough about the assets involved in armor/clothing/body to fix a CTD with Skyrim that occurs ONLY when a female PC removes ONLY body armor, or when body armor ONLY is looted off a dead female NPC.  Is this a simple educational track?

 

2.  I want to figure out enough to make minor tweaks to armour  (shorten a sleeve, remove a strap, add a little color, etc.).  Is this a simple educational track?

 

I finished Skyrim for first time.  Wanted to do it right, so poked around a bit and dragged my feet on the main quest until STEAM told me I had logged almost 250 hours.

I then decided to do some mods (had done CoT and a few other light mods through NMM for first run), and soon found myself in trouble.  I am a user of CBBE V3.3A with bodyslide 2.2 with no problems.  CTD after installing armor pack for CBBE with bodyslide.  Removed armor pack.  Now CTD if female PC removes body armor or loots body armor from female NPC.  Only female characters and only body armor. Nothing I couldn't get out of if I just ripped out all the mods and started over; but it bugs me that I am at the mercy of a bunch of UNRESPONSIVE people for something I know has to be simple. 

 

One of the things I was trying to figure out is how character assets are used (and affect CTDs) in third person view.  One of the skills I figured I needed to acquire was how to figure out where undies/bikinis (and maybe skeleton.nif) files are stored.  And what better way to find out than to learn how to make/mod npc underwear.

Want to learn enough about assets involved in armor/clothing/body mods to fix this problem and make some of my own tweaks to armor.  So, like I asked earlier, is this something doable for a beginner, or am I the first grader trying to take on calculus?  If someone has the patience, please tell me:  You should learn this, then that, then you'll be ready to try what you want to do.

1. Sounds like it's a mod installation issue. Is your armor mod a stand-alone version or a replacer? The former is usually a new set of armor that comes with an esp while the later just has meshes and sometimes textures. Also, when you removed the armor mod, did you also remove CBBE's body replacer? If you're playing a female, just run around in your birthday suit. if you don't crash, then we can probably rule out an issue with CBBE. If you do crash, then you'll need to reinstall CBBE and tell NMM to overwrite everything. The "underwear" that comes with CBBE is painted into the texture and is not a separate piece like the underwear in Schlongs of Skyrim is. If you're using the non-nude version of CBBE, tell NMM to uninstall and reinstall it, choosing the non-nude/sfw version again.

 

For #2, you'll need to learn how to set up armor for your body part in the CK (e.g. head, torso, hands, etc.), add the armor to the CK, add the ground meshes, position the armor properly on any body replacer (Bodyslide can help you do this for female armor), and how to use Blender. If you're just changing armor parts, then Blender is what you'll need to modify the armor meshes themselves. Others here have a lot of experience in making armor so I'll let them tell you what the process is.

Thank you, sir.  Your reply was exactly the type of reply for which I was searching.  I had already downloaded the CK before my original post.  Looks like it's time to go over to the school house and actually do something with it.

 

Oh, My test PCs were Nord females made using bodyslide and "NeverNude" model.  And, yes, it crashes if PC or (female) NPC takes off body armor.  So I will reinstall CBBE.

I'm glad my ramblings were useful to you. Hopefully you can get your CTDs sorted out. I know they can be a source of immense frustration when trying to track down what exactly is causing them.
