  1. That giant candle is funny.

Here are my chapter 3 pics so far:

    The Basics

    The Extra Credit

I don't have the basement done yet, but is it alright to come back to it after chapter 4? I accidently started that one, thinking that it was chapter 3 :bagged:

    Also, a few suggestions:

    * I found out that fences, carpets and other objects may need to "fall" (using the F key) several times in order to be at the right height.

*The autosave seems to work fine, so you might want to suggest that your students use that as well as saving often

*It looks like there's an option so that external cells won't automatically load in the preferences. The wiki didn't have much info on this option, unfortunately, so I don't know if it actually works

*You can set your Snap to Grid and Snap to Angle preferences to work relative to any reference in the cell. This is very handy for getting those pesky fences to line up right. You can even specify different references for different targets as long as your careful to not click on anything that you don't want adjusted.

*The two Snaps are also useful for moving multiple objects into place at the same time when you've already assembled them together. For example, if you've spent forever trying to get the fence pieces together and then decide that you'd really rather have them 2 meters to the left.

  2. @Hanaisse:

Construction Set Extender, huh? Sounds promising, but I've read that I should hold off on things like using the OBSE's additional commands until I've got a handle on the basics, first. Would you agree?

I was afraid to load up the CS until I got this resolved, :nuke: . I'll try the esp reboot thingy soon, hopefully that'll teach that rascally varmint. As for the question of whether or not I'm sure if I had it on run, yes, there'd be no question if you could see what I see. It literally takes about a minute to take a couple of steps and it's got the running animation going, anyway. At first, I thought it was because I was slipping down a slope, y'know, when you can't move on your own? Then I made it to the bottom (thankfully, I was most of the way down, already) and I knew it was more serious than that. Teleported myself, but that didn't fix anything

@DarkRider: I've got an awesome PC, atm. It's not mine, but for as long as I've got access to it, I'm gonna use it every chance I get :lmao: It's one of the best on the market right now; it has no problem with running Oblivion, two copies of the CS and IE simultaneously and without lag. OTOH, I think I've got that error fixed. I haven't tried loading it, though, so I just wanted to make sure that it works OK. If it's not safe to use, I'll just turn it off, no biggie. I save fairly regurlarly, anyway. I just like feeling safe :paladin:

As for the bum oar meshes, I thought as much. Glad I double checked, though. Thanks for setting my mind at ease :buddy:

Update: I just tried resetting the mod, and everything seems to be running just fine now  I'd kinda like to know what had gone wrong in the first place, but so long as it doesn't come up again, I'm ok with not knowing.

  3. I've been getting error messages every once in awhile in every session from the CS. So far, I haven't seen any issues arising from them, so I've mostly just ignored them. But I thought that maybe, just maybe, somebody who knows more about the CS than I will tell me that I've only got 3 more days to live or something.

The most common one says something about the Model loader still having Nif files. It doesn't seem to follow any pattern in which files it still has in the loader, though.

The more consistent error message has something to do with oars. I can't remember exactly what it says, but it has something to do with them being old rigid bodies (like a corpse!).

The third is that the CS has thrown a fit whenever it comes time to do an auto-save. I've hopefully fixed that problem (it said that the file path was bad, so I created a backup folder in the data folder to finish the path), but I just wanted to be sure.

EDIT: Uh-oh, something bad happened. Now, when I load the game, my character moves in slo-mo. This doesn't affect NPC's at all, and I can still jump and turn around at normal speeds, but moving in any direction is next to impossible.

  4. You can select and object and chose Edit>Search&Replace which will then let you replace the selected object with something else. The new object will have the same coordinates and rotation etc, but depending on what you replace it with you may have to manually adjust it anyway. You can replace every instance of one object in a cell at once, but again, if manual adjustments are needed you will have to do all by hand.

As for Find, I've never used that feature and it doesn't appear to do anything. Some things were disabled by developers before release to modders maybe that among them  Use Find Text to find an object you are looking for. Once you have the proper ID and location, the list is alphabetical.

Awesome! I suspected it *had* to be in there somewhere :)

Good thing to know that I should've used Find Text. Alphabetical is nice and all, but only if you know what you're looking for ;)

  5. Hi, I was working on tutorial #3 and I realized that I would've liked a certain shortcut, which hopefully already exists. Here's the nub of the issue: I would like to take an existing object's coordinates and replace it with another object or simply lay the second object on top of the first. I realize that I can copy and paste the x, y, z coordinates one at a time, but I'm hoping for something a little less tedious. One can only hope, eh? :oblivion:

Oh, I don't know if this is related, but I can't get the Edit-->Find function to work. Is it because I've got something in the Render Window?

  6. Wow, the perfect answer when I was getting frustrated :jellytime: I knew from the CS basics tutorial that I needed to set the first piece to 0, 0, 0, but I didn't realize that the angle mattered too. I was getting really frustrated, adjusting each section of fence by hand so that the angles more or less matched up.

Then I finished reading thruogh the lesson and found this gem. Thank you!

  7. I hope that it's alright that I just rushed ahead to chapter two...

Anyway, I fixed up the lights. If you would look over the path grids, that would be great. I wasn't sure if there was enough room to maneuver in the dining hall. I imagine that the NPC's need about as much space as one of those nodes?

    The bookcase

    My front door

    Custom chests, apparatuses, wine

    and finally, my walk ways

EDIT: I just saw your comments on chapter one. Thanks! And thank you for taking the time to look through all these people's pictures, working on such awesome tutorials, and all the other hard work you've done.

On the topic of carpets, I agree they kinda stand out in a bad way. I wanted carpets that would cover the entire floor, though. Do you know of a carpet that would fit the bill?

  8. Oh, it's not too late to join? Cool. I just started, myself. First post, first mod, etc.

I don't know about anybody else, but I found it easier to adjust things' positions by changing the numbers on their position than using the mouse. Maybe it's because my screen is ginormous? The only issue I had with doing it "by the numbers" was that you can't group them and move them AFAIK.

I apparently really have no idea what the spaces in the house are normally used for; I put the bed in the little alcove to the left of the fireplace and the table tucked into the corner (to the right of the half-wall division). It's a tight squeeze, I've got a lot of carpeting, though I think I used the wrong ones--the red and gold ones said Bravil carpets, and the Burgundy are Bruma carpets, I think.

Let's see, my screen is darker than most, so I think the lighting is about right, but it's hard to judge. I could probably use an extra light for the hallway leading to my table. It made the carpets seem to blend in better that way, though

Oh, yeah, I'd already started setting the table. Hope that's not an issue.

I assume you'd like to see the place in the construction set, yes? I'm not sure how to do that. I changed the .ini in the construction set, but now I can't find it. I also didn't get a message that a screenshot was saved
