  1. Probably already know the answer to this question but figured it was worth a try anyway. I'm doing a release mod and its a WIP right now. Interior is complete, basement is 90% constructed (minor set back with a conflicting texture from another mod, won't take much to revise that particular section) and needs to be cluttered. Landscaping has turned into a MAJOR project here and I'd say it's almost 90% done.

My question is - I am not doing so well with blending ground cover and have too much work invested at this point to take a chance on black texture screens again. Are we allowed to have someone help? I'd like to have everything set up and done and have someone that is proficient with landscaping put the final touches on it. I would OF COURSE give credit for the work to the person in my release.

PS.. By final touches I' referring to blending in the cell edges with the surrounding cells.

I'm figuring I have about a week unless this weekend is really productive.

  2. Have a couple of questions regarding the final that were not addressed in the lesson plan.

If you are doing a release project are you allowed to use premade basements, dungeons, that are part of the vanilla OB? Ex. Skingrad Fighter's guide basement. I think there's one. or the baseent style of any house that might be available. Or - do you have to construct your own?

During the lessons DR you said that if I were to release I would have to include that SI is needed. Is that even if I don't use any SI objects?

Is there a time frame for this?

For the non released final, the sell we're supposed to use as our central cell is already renamed because of my landscaping ordeal. If I choose to go that route am I able to leave the named cell as it is and use it for the final?

  3. My final (I hope) edit for lesson #4 with Gecko. The snapshot of Gecko shows my filesname as DragonsDenOrig.esp. If this is correct I will change the name back to its original of DragonsDen.esp and remove the one with the DR in it.

    Link to the picture is:

    Gecko Final

Additional information: I was correct in that I named one of the cells incorrectly.(36,-26) was NOT a named cell. I removed the incorrect one with Gecko, went back into CS and renamed that cell Ext3 and corrected the rift in the landscaping. The other cell that was incorrectly named had NO landscaping effects. I had my animation overhanging the corner. I moved the animation elsewhere in my original cell and set Gecko to ignore the cell. Verified that there were no inconsistancies within the borders both in the CS and ingame.

    What a learning experience!

  4. The point of cleaning your mod is just to trim it down to what is needed and to remove any accidental changes and excess stuff to make it tidy. In this case you CAN'T remove the changes, so this is what you need to do.

Start with a fresh copy of your backup, since you already had the cells renamed there that you changed. Go through in Gecko and delete all the cells and their children leaving only your named cells and you should be done.

    Does that make sense?

[EDIT] Also, when you refer to images could you please post the link in your post so I can find it without having to hunt for it? :D

I have the orignal named, the one to the left of the original cell and the one directly below it and the original cell. The one with the largest gap wasn't even named. I'm going to keep looking and see if I can pull (3, -26) out of the equation because (36, -26) has the largest rift.

And yes I will post the link so you don't have to hunt for the pic. Sorry.

[EDIT] I was looking it over again and the wasn't a rift in the corner. My animation was hanging over the corner. When I moved it somewhere else in my original cell it disappeared it took out the 4th cell. I need to double check that I actually renamed to correct cells to start with. If I'm not mistaken I messed up, not sure. Have spent a lot of time between Gecko and the CS working on the test and don't rememebr what the original is now.

  5. Posted my Gecko Report for the testing file. I've gotten it down to just the original cell but no matter how hard I try to repair the rift from the going back to the original files, after editing one side, saving and rerunning the report I keep getting the same cells. Have been doing this to where I either rename the wilderness files to show that I intentional am making these changes or leave them as wilderness.

Process has been go into gecko, ignore a few parts, look in the editor to see what has changed. If nothing go back to gecko and ignore a few more. Have repeated this scenario until when it is only the original cell and the repairs trying to smooth out lake bottom on back side and right side.

    How should I preceed?

  6. Looking great so far Arion!

I do have a note for you. Mana Blooms do not appear in Cyrodiil and according to ES lore they are only found in Cameron's Paradise. It's fine to keep them in your homework since it's not releasing, but for the future you'll want to be careful about adding Mana Blooms to Cyrodiil, you'll get some complainers that way. :cookie:

When you DO use Mana Blooms they should come down further and not standing on the end of their stalk. :lmao:

Appreciate the advise about the Mana Blooms. I never actually thought about where they were located. Kind of thought it was SI. My biggest focus on the garden was to have a variety of colors and heights as well as a resemblance of a path the player could walk through to enjoy the flowers. Will it still count towards the Credit Challenge if I just lower the mana blooms or should I remove them?

For the final I intend to have a more traditional garden since It'll be on dry land and in a temperate climate.

  7. DarkRider - I've posted lesson #4 pictures in Arion's Gallery for you to look over. This should cover everything EXCEPT cleaning the file with Gimp (???).

    Notes:

Final revision of the Garden!!! ***

    Revised lighting in the Interior

    Revised lighting in the Basement

    Cleaned and revised pathgrids**

** Pathgrid under the garden was taken before I started the garden over again because the fencing was way out of proportion to my character's height. I shrank the fence portions and added 1 to each of the 4 sides to give me more room for the plants, etc. The pathgrid of the house changed from lesson 3 because I broke some links and had to redo everything for the interior of the house.

*** Pictures 6 & 7 I added more lilly pads around the garden and adjusted the height of a couple of the purple and blue flowers and the kelp.

Need to do the tutorial on the cleaner and may take a day or two to complete the rest of the homework.

  8. Lesson 3's pictures are in Arion's gallery. Combination of CS snaps and in-game shots. Should have everything for homework and extra credit done. Will work on the challenge section in a day or two after I recover from this and get approval. Not sure about my water garden.

Hope the butterflies, moths and fireflies are okay.

  9. Have you already finished the main quest? If so, a CTD here is most commonly due to a problem with the Bruma statue--changing the race, hair, and even sometimes the clothing on your PC causes it to have an identity crisis... If it's out of the question to revert to a previous savegame--too far back--it's sometimes possible to fix it. But the fastest and easiest way is to use a small mod called Kill Bruma Statue (or somesuch), which removes the statue completely. You can then recreate the statue in your current likeness using Update My Statue, if you wish. (I have had a couple games where this procedure didn't work so well, but for the most part it does.) Either way, you should then be able to enter Bruma again.

If you haven't done the MQ, then I'd start checking for any mod that overhauls/affects the city or its inhabitants..

I finished the MQ a long time ago. With 540 game days going back that far is kind of out of the equation. I haven't changed any of my characters attributes since I started this last game. I'll lok up that mod you suggested. I was kind of thinking that there's so much around Bruma that it's possible it was mod induced. I've tried different load orders to no affect, but it never hurt to really go through it.

    Appreciate the suggestions.

  10. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm in the process of getting my feet wet so to speak now. I've completed the first 2 basics lessons and working on #3. Not sure how far I'll go, but as someone suggested follow through and where you feel you're doing your best make a run at it.

It may sound funny but what I'd eventually like to do is be able to get into animation and have a video of my character dancing to "Do You Want to Date My Avatar" by The Guild. Probably a lofty goal but you need to have some sort of inspiration. <smile>

  11. I've had this serious problem for months and just blew it off say what the heck could be so important in Bruma. Everytime I try to enter through the games the game CTD. I can teleport to the castle and am fine until I try to leave through the door and its CTD again. I've also come in through the tunnel and gone into a house an no problems until I try to exit the front door. Anyone have any ideas? Could possibly send a saved game if that is any help. Had a friend that is a so called modder come over and she is clueless.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd love to be able to try out the holiday mod.

  12. Looks great and was fun exploring. Noticed there is a conflict with Hoarfrost Castle (one of the quest locations) "Inverted Cathedral". As you go up the stairs on the right side you can see the catherdral and there is a lot of missing textures in the landscape. Wasn't able to find the opening for the cathedral.

  13. I'm kind of new to the Oblivion game. Only been playing it for about a year now. My son came home on leave from the Air Force and I watched him play for 3 days before I couldn't resist any longer and had to go get the game myself. I'm using the GTY Edition and am completely blown away at the abilities you folks have in creating such terrific mods to extend and make the game so much better than it was to start with.

I've been toying with the idea of possibly learning how to mod myself and have looked at the courses. I'm kind of worried because I'm not artistically inclined.
