  1. Really should have posted it direct from Nexus so people don't have to go looking:

Be careful: Trojans masquerading as popular executables
    posted by Dark0neSite News
This is a heads up announcement to please, for the love of all that is good, always keep your wits about you when downloading from here or anywhere on the internet.

There is currently an individual who is placing trojans within well known pieces of Skyrim software, such as the Skyrim Character Editor and even Skyrim Mod Organizer, and then uploading them as new files here on Skyrim Nexus (note, the original files here and here are NOT compromised, this user is uploading new files to the site masquerading as these files). This trojan has code within it that will retrieve any passwords you have stored in your browser and send them to the script kiddy's email address. The script kiddy is then using the details he has stolen from users "unlucky" enough to be exploited in this way, logging in to their accounts here on the Nexus and then uploading another trojan via the same method.

If you believe you may have fallen for this exploit then ALL the passwords you have stored in your browser have been compromised. You should change your passwords immediately for any and all sites you use, and change your passwords on any sites where you have used the same password, even if you don't have that site's login stored.

If you stick to common sense practises while browsing the internet then this will not be a problem for you at all. Things you should always be suspicious of or do:

    • Files with comments disabled that have only been uploaded in the past day
    • Elaborate and complex files uploaded by new users or users who have previously not uploaded a single file or made a single comment on the sites
    • Software that has absolutely no business using your internet connection trying to make a connection to the internet
    • Executable files, or files containing .DLL libraries unless you are absolutely sure it can be trusted.
    • Always, always run a virus scan on any files you download from this or any site you download from
    • If in doubt, don't download or open the file and wait to see what other more experienced users are reporting

I sympathise with the people who have been caught by this, but you got caught by this because you aren't using your common sense. Please, for your sake, keep your wits about you and don't let your guard down when downloading files on the internet.

If you don't have a firewall, or if your firewall does not warn you when new, unrecognised and untrusted software is trying to connect to the internet please follow these steps:

    1. Find your router
    2. Rip your router away from any connected cables
    3. Open the nearest window
    4. Throw your router out of it
    5. Close the window

Honestly, get a firewall, install it, and understand how it works. Without one it's very possible your system is a drone in a botnet and likely a part of the perpetual problem of the internet that is DDoS'ing, something that we're no stranger to here.

  2. I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about, but if you mean going through a door and seeing down a like a long hall or something before the loading screen kicks in this might be helpful.

http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Optimization I believe its room markers and portals. i've seen tutorial videos that go into more detail and if this is what you are looking for it'll make looking for user video tutorials easier.

  3. Unless things have changed over the past couple of years it was always advised to only use 1 anti-virus program so they didn't interfer with each other and cancel out some of their functions. Most anti-virus programs protest when it discovers another anti-virus program is already installed and running. Maybe that's why you have so many false postives and warnings that don't make any sense.

  4. Modding is one of the rare things in this world that is not based on profit and where competition has nothing to do. If you need competition to mod, just don't do it.

Obviously you missed the entire point I was making in that there doesn't seem to be as much interest in having venues for showcasing various modders work. Competition or not, things are not the same with Skyrim and the community as it was before Skyrim came out as it was the Oblivion community.

A clear example of this was the excitment of watching new modders and old taking the beginning modding classes here and waiting with baited breath to see what their final projects were.

  5. I don't have any bones to pick in this but I will just put this out there for you to consider. In the permissions it is clearly specified:

Lost Spires is jam-packed with new modding resources. Perusing the extracted files will reveal hundreds of unique meshes and textures, many icons, sounds, a few new creatures, and two entire retextures of the vanilla cave tile-set. Most new meshes are contained in a single folder: Data\meshes\dungeons\caves\clutter01. Likewise, most new textures are contained in: Data\textures\dungeons\caves\clutter01. Creature models and retextures are contained in the standard creature folders. The two cave retextures are contained in Data\meshes\dungeons\caves\cave02 and Data\meshes\dungeons\caves\cave03

Retextures are using Bethseda's meshes and are retextured with a new texture. It also states that there are numerous new meshes and textures as well as retextures in the clutter01 folder.

The problem here is that you have to be able to tell what the new resources are that you can actually port to a new game. Clearly you are not allowed to port any of Bethseda's original meshes and textures and the anything that is a retexture (the cave tilesets for one) are clearly off limits. A rule of thumb that we were always taught when using someone's resources was that "When in doubt don't touch."

The person who made this mod used this as a showcase of his/her skills in modding and it was their portfolio which led them to be hired with a major gaming company. You know the official website for the mod author and if you can't or don't receive a response then in my opinion you have to tread very carefully on what you use so as not to comprimise any copywrites on either Bethseda's or the mod author's work.

Just my opinion on the matter.... And for what it's worth I used the primival cave tileset in one of my Oblivion mods with permission and credit given. It is one of my favorites.

  6. Nahkin - the sorry thing is that you have such a great idea and suggestion, however the last Halloween Mod competition we tried to have here they couldn't even get enough people to sign up to make it a community project. And we did have a texturing contest that only had 2 competitors. Me and one other person.

Your ideas and suggestions are worthy, but I think between the site's moderators and general membership being too busy working on other things that there's not much chance of it happening. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

  7. I looked at your bow and have some suggestions. First off I know nothing about blender so anything I say about that should be taken with a grain of salt.

Couple of things I noticed when I looked at it.

#1 - Your string is too large for the bow (as in it is longer than the bow is) . Might want to adjust that.

#2 - The nocking wadding might be adjusted to actually fit within the area where the arrow is held at. (part on the string seems to be off center)

#3 - On the bow itself, just my opinion, you should smooth out all the vertices. This would make it easier to apply different textures depending on what you are trying to accomplish. example - wood, ivory, bone, fur, etc.

#4 - Using black string unless you are trying for a stealth type bow used in the dark , should probably be lighter. Also, if you look at the ncoking wad there is splotches of brown texturing. I think it should be all one color. That might be what you were going for. I don't know the process of wrapping, unwarping, baking textures or whatever you have to do to set up your textures to the correct placement on your mesh. If you need help with this there are people here that might be able to help you in that respect. InsanitySorrow is very good with all of this and has made numerous weapons.

I enjoy working with textures, but all my experience is with textures after its setup and applied to the mesh already.

  8. It appears that the mod was done on an old version of the CS and when the updated version of the CS came out it caused a lot of problems with the mod. The author asked anyone that was willing to rework it and fix the glitches because his new computer couldn't handle it. Apparently there were no takers and he pulled the mod. You might try emailing the author and seeing if he would be willing to send you an arcived copy of the file.

  9. Well I'm not sure about yours when you manually install.. But your situation is entirely different than tiger's in that he is just downloading them... he isn't installing them. He has to be using some type of front end that downloads and automatically installs. And the only one that I am aware of that does that is the steam workshop.

Ps .. Not only does subscibing download and install it also checks for updates to the mods and automatically installs the update. At least it used to unless they've changed its behavior.

  10. Well its either the fact that you are using steam workshop's subscribe or Nexus Mod Manager.. though I highly suspect you're using the steam workshop's subscribe. Quit using steam workshop and you wont have that problem :)

  11. I don't know about a lot of your mods.. But are you rebuilding your patch after you uninstall your quest mods and again each time you add a mod to test whether it is working or not? When you run BOSS does it recommend cleaning any files with TESEdit? When you build your patch, are you checking each area to make sure that what it supposed to go in the patch is checked and that category is also checked too?

Just a few ideas .. HTH

  12. There's a reason that Bethseda Forums have this topic pinned as the very first topic in the Hardware and Software forum !!!!

You should read it and then understand that it is your computer that is the problem and nothing short of getting a computer with at least the bare minimum requirtements is necessary to play the game. And if you are going to have to buy a computer to play Skyrim, then you might as well try getting one that meets the recommended requirements so that you can also play the majority of other newer games as well.
