  1. I finally got Lain's profile up! I was initially thinking of him as being a farmhand as his backstory profession, but then he gradually morphed into an enchanter with a touch of alchemist. But definitely a novice, so as not to overshadow Fiska and maybe foster interaction if she sees Lain trying alchemy but speeding towards a horrible mistake :P

I'd like to draw out and color up a bust image of Lain rather than use a screenshot, hence why there's no image for him right now. But for now, it's time to make a post and get the would-be enchanter into The Tavern!

... Now I kind of want to detail out that Elena figure I made up for the backstory even though I JUST finished Lain. XD Must resist, must resist.

    Type: Main Player Character

    Character Name: Lain Goldmoth

    Age: 19

    Race: Breton

    Occupation(s): Enchanter, novice alchemist.

    Guardian Stone: The Steed

    Alignment: True Neutral

Mount: Roca, a grullo mare that (mostly) can't be bothered with life's problems. Takes time to wake up and get rolling, but is steady even in the face of danger. Unless it involves cats (Khajiit not included.)

Physical Attributes: At 5'6'' (1.67m) in height and with a slim figure, Lain is about as unimposing as one could be without being non-existent. Moderately long, blonde hair stretches down to his shoulders. Life on the road has rapidly made him a more toned figure and toned down the androgynous element, but even so he could still be mistaken for a girl if seen without a clear view of his face.

Equipment: Steel Dagger, Shortbow & steel arrows. The dagger is enchanted with freezing properties - the struck limb or other bodypart behaves as though it has been submerged in freezing water.

Spell(s): Candlelight – it wont light more than a meter around him, but Lain can provide a light for a short while without needing to consume a torch. Or risk roasting someone.

Flames – It's not a very big fireball, but it's fire all the same.

    Sparks – BZZZZZZZZZZZT!

Backstory: Lain has not had much opportunity to more deeply understand the world or himself until recently. Most of his short life has been spent as effectively a house servant, taking care of the homes of people far above him on the social totem pole to help keep a roof over his family's head. Being a house servant had its perks; Lain passively absorbed a lot of information and was even directly taught things once in a while, most especially by childhood friend Elena, teaching him what it took to become a functional practitioner of enchanting and to a lesser extent alchemy. Ultimately it led him being able to purchase the horse, Roca, from Elena's family and let him set off to find his own way, becoming something of a wandering enchanter while trying to accrue enough coinage to settle down properly.

Personality: Softspoken and gentle, Lain is always ready to help and to make a friend. It is tempered primarily by having a sixth sense about people, though it is not something he consciously understands and his better judgment can be led astray by group consensus. Seemingly at odds with this ability to read people's motives is a tendency to read people's statements at face value out of unawareness of deeper subtexts and meanings. It's not crippling, and he will usually pick up on it if the secondary meaning has to do with emotion, but a would be skooma dealer will be left dismayed trying to sucker in this idiot. While Lain will readily spring to action for others, be it socially or in battle, he has trouble standing up for himself against other people.

Special Powers/Weaknesses: The Steed – Lain can carry half his own weight in stuff without being slowed down. Carrying the mass of a person will take its toll, but he can still cover considerable ground before succumbing.

Dragonskin – In his moments of greatest need, Lain may suffer the blow of the most lethal spells and survive unscathed. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, indeed.

  3. WHOA GEE

Tavern Tales is still going! I remember when I was still a much more naive creature trying to participate. Last time I was active enough to have any kind of presence here it was about 5-6 years ago.

I'm interested, taking a look at who the roster is & figuring out a character that will complement.

EDIT: Just caught up with all that's happened in the Story thread, looks like I discovered the Morrowind edition at the best time.

    • Thanks 1
  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7nzml-zZ9M. At the moment only barely, but it's alive!

That being said, I am interested in returning! I have two characters I might want to bring onboard at some point, one being Lain Goldmoth (DarkRider may recognize this name, but in the two years since the name was first spoken the character has made great leaps and bounds into a creature who is defined by his gentle and agreeable nature. Always trying to bring people together and be there for who or whatever it may be), and the other being a more recent character of mine known as Jonquil (as far as talents go, a natural acrobat mixed with a musician with a knack for wind instruments. Her personality meanwhile is casual and friendly, hard pressed to call anyone a monster having seen what those are, though she has a somewhat skeptical and cynical edge to her.)

I don't dare try and introduce both at once though! Wont be making that mistake twice, my experience has been that it results in both characters fighting for narrative attention.

As far as who would actually see introduction in the Tavern first, Lain Goldmoth is my pick because of his whole "Heart is an awesome power!" schtick, I think that would bring an immediately unique dynamic that's still compatible with the Tavern. Can't churn out a character sheet today unfortunately as life's burdens command my attention, but I'd like to get something in within the week.

  5. Heh, heh. I could use this at work.

I should pass this around to the other moderators I cooperate with on the Primal Carnage forums, and if you guys had talked to me yesterday I probably would've sounded like a

as I raged while using windows movie maker in an act of desperation. XD

That being said, today's been an exciting day for me as I finally made my debut on Project Crynosaurs as the sound designer!

  6. It's been waaay too long since I last stopped into the Lurker's Lair to say something... ahmaghad, something's eating me! I got two ugly looking big mosquito bites on my arm. >_< In more substantial news, in the past few months I've been getting into the world of sound design, mostly playing with creature effects for now, but soon , I shall have all the colors of the rainbow to play with. Also been getting into Dota 2, finally starting to pick up on Guild Wars 2 after preording it 250 years ago (done being grumpy about the changes from 1st to 2nd game, in other words... ok, maybe still a smidge.) Also been playing Diablo 2 of all things as of late. O_o

Today I got to hold a kingsnake while volunteering at the Institute of Marine Mammal Research, in addition to my usual adventures in handfeeding sharks, cownose rays, and stingrays.

Also, I entered the lair of the dragon. I came out with this. It's Daku, she says hi.

  7. Today, I was in a harlem shake video. After doing some stuff for a group project I was part of, another group asked mine to populate their video. I headbanged until I ended up losing my balance, fell and rolled over, then I got up & continued to headbang.

  8. The (not so) epic tale of my origin story, a summary of my activity here, and then some:

I was browsing the bethesda forums back in October 2008 (this was right around when I was getting ready to make Wilson the Clannfear, but I forget what I was really doing), then I found HeyYou's signature linking to TESA. Signature advertising does work. :P

Back then I was known under the alias Dragonsmoon ("dragon"), during which I learned the ropes of forum roleplay in the original Tavern Tales, improved my internet tact as DR and other TESA Team members repeatedly beat me over the head with a stick, recovered from RL tensions, and did some general growing up. Up until finding TESA, the only forum I regularly frequented was the unmoderated train-wreck known as the WoW forums.

One's etiquette tends to improve when every post and shout can be seen and smacked down whack-a-mole style by the moderator army. XD During one of the early mega-updates which (intentionally) took TESA offline for a few days was when I adopted my famous (on TESA at least) Jheuloh ("Jello") identity, sometime in mid 2009 methinks. After that things were smooth sailing (some moderator reminders aside), I found a character type that works nicely for myself and others in forum roleplay (basically myself as a character AKA an author avatar, as some others here have done), and now I tend to run the question "is it useful or very likely to be amusing?" before blubbering anything. Once I discovered the Primal Carnage forums in 2010, my activity here tapered somewhat as I discovered my "other" community; the paleontology, zoology, and herpetology community.

I did try my hand at getting involved in one of the modding classes here for 3D modeling, but that fell by the wayside as I realized I was willing to do the insane thing; take on what's arguably the most challenging task of all for modeling... making a genuinely "new" type of character (new skeleton, animations, texture, and sound not just a new model, texture, and possible sounds superimposed over premade animations and skeleton.) Regulars of TESA will know my character as the "blender beast", or a T. rex on 4 legs, as Xinimator describes it. Blender beast has been my main WIP projects since 2009; it's been taking so disproportionately long because like I said, I chose to do the insane thing and learn all the necessary skills of character creation (modeling, animating, texturing, and sound effects) and take the difficulty up to 11 by opting for realism and professional grade sounds, animations, etc.

While my activity on TESA and TES modding has been dvided as other games, communities, and hobbies command my attention, I still have stuff in which TESA will receive first priority, and when Skyrim approaches "final expansion" and/or "final patch" (most likely the latter) I may shake off the cobwebs and start working on small mods for Skyrim.

  9. Some days after their initial visit, Akash and Nina were chatting again, Akash telling her "Once I’ve done what I need to do I'm definitely up for a drink." She nodded, and Akash then returned to fill out his immediate duties. Once he had finished with his tasks, Akash bought some ale and visited Nina’s table. After taking a light sip, Akash set his drink down and took a seat facing Nina’s direction. The nord inquired “So, what’s kept you from going off and retrieving your merchant?â€

“Well,†Akash explained, “As I said when we first met, we were off to find a bosmer merchant who’d been captured for ransom. We were hired so as to get him back to Markarth. Their captors are well armed and have encountered us before, so currently Berach, myself, and Glynis are preparing beforehand if peaceful negotiations fail. We were told they were located nearby Dead Men’s Respite.†Nina nodded, and then Akash questioned her in turn “In turn, might I ask you why you have remained in the Tavern? It seems odd for the adventuring type like you to just stay here.â€

Nina shook her head while wearing a light smile, and gave him the un-answer “It’s a long story, maybe if we get to know you and your friends better we could explain.†Akash gave Nina the argonian equivalent of a raised eyebrow and an amused smirk “Ah, so the lot of you are attached to this place. Have I guessed correctly?†Akash uttered, to which Nina replied “Maybe the short answer.†The argonian decided it was time to move on to something else, perhaps now was the time to see if he could convince anyone to join him “So, going back to our rescue mission, I mentioned that the bosmer’s captors had encountered us before. Glynis, Berach, and I fear that if worst comes to worst, we may not be able to save the merchant on our own.†Nina was no longer in a slight slouch, now attentive as to what Akash might say next.

“Might I ask if you’re interested in assisting us? I remember that you’re wary of Glynis, but recall that in the mountains, you demanded proof only achieved through actions. Perhaps our quest would grant you that proof you’re looking for. If you go with us, we’ll divide the pay with you and anyone else who helps us.†Nina furrowed her brows and looked down, then looked up, giving him a dark look for his criticisms. She restrained her temper, and stated “That’ll be something I have to think over.†They both silently agreed perhaps it was time to move on so that their talk wouldn’t die. It was successful, and they continued to talk and ask questions, then Glynis and Berach appeared into the front room of the Tavern briefly.

Eventually, Nina and Akash’s drinking and chatting would come to an end, and Akash went outside to tend to Sigrid. Glynis and Berach had gone out to tend to their horses as well; Akash took this time to talk to his friends about how things went “Well, I may have one person on board with us; Nina, of all people. She’s a wild one though, I don’t know what her decision was, or if she made one at all.†Glynis remained silent but attentive, while Berach spoke up wearing a smirk “Seems like you and Nina are becoming buddies.†Akash wore a ‘maybe’ expression, explaining to him “Maybe, maybe not, she’s a tough one to predict.†Sensing uneasiness in Glynis, Akash shifted the topic to alchemy “So, Berach, do you think you have enough to make what we need and what ‘extras’ might need?â€

The breton answered him with a yes; their talk continued up until they were at the door of the Tavern, which they agreed would be not be where they make plans. Sindri had been with Akash the entire time, and once the trio had reentered the Tavern, the dog went back to the stables, keeping watch for any unlucky small animals to cross paths with him, despite already being fed.

  10. Just in case you guys had been wondering where I've been......I've been spending insane amounts of hours on building a graphics engine in one of my university assignments......and to show it off, here is a screenshot of it in action.

Pow! Will you be doing anything more with the scene and/or the graphics engine you developed? Or was it made just for the sake of the assignment?

Now, in other news, there is something I have to share with TESA which may (or may not) be interesting to people not (usually) interested in paleontology:

Behold! Yutyrannus huali; a feathered, primitive tyrannosaur. Currently the largest feathered animal known at 1,400 kilograms (3,100 pounds) in mass, and 7-8 meters (23-26 feet) in length.

Let me reemphasize the "tyrannosaur" part. XD Yutyrannus doesn't technically say "yes" to old T. rex itself having feathers (something that's been floating around in the paleontological community for some time now), but it's a whole lot more likely now. :P

This basically gives artists and game designers the realism card for depicting large, predatory dinosaurs in a taiga or tundra setting. Like Skyrim. :lmao:

  11. Glynis, Berach, Akash, Haunt, Nina, Grond, and Red were off riding their way back to the Mill Tavern to regroup, having noticed the markings on the rock near their horses. They made a slow descent down the mountains, following the road despite knowing that bandits and forsworn would probably be watching, as they collectively understood that their numbers and combat prowess prevented them from being threatened by anything short of a small raiding group. The talk of the journey consisted mostly of Grond talking about the glory of alcohol with Glynis, Red teasing Grond about his growing desire to be completely smashed, and Haunt dropping the occasional witty remark. Nina occasionally spoke, but looming near the end of the seven horse line behind Haunt, hence isolated from the best opportunity for chatter. Akash was in lead, with Berach and Glynis behind him, although that didn’t stop him from taking part in the banter.

“So, what’s with that little thing you called a scarab key, anyway?†Akash asked to nobody in particular. Grond, Red, Nina, and Haunt thought for a moment, and realized that they didn’t particularly know what it was good for, asides from getting them out of the dungeon alive. “We don’t have a clue, and frankly I could care less, I’ve had enough undead and spiders for a lifetime or two.†Nina retorted, breaking her silence to the surprise of the others as they briefly looked back. “Maybe someone back at the Tavern would know what to do with it.†Grond added.

The band of adventurers were now at the boundary line of the snowbound peaks, snow growing more and more patchy as they rode on, up until they were low enough in elevation for there to be no snow patches. “Finally, out of the cold, but I will miss you, wondrous snow.†Red spoke in a mock-prose voice; Akash and Glynis agreed with her, and Akash smirked as best his Argonian anatomy allowed “Hides-In-Trees, we’re back at your natural habitat.†Glynis answered his facetious remark with a smirk “Watch out for your extended family, Dragon Face.†She returned to talking with Grond about ale, and Berach explained to Haunt and Red the story behind the nicknames Akash and Glynis referred to each other as.

In the plains at the midpoint between the mountains and the Mill Tavern, the line broke formation as the folks of the band engaged in deeper discussion with one with one another, getting more excited about returning to their base of operations. Berach, Akash, and Red formed a trio their creative endeavors, the breton suggesting “Perhaps one day we could band together as storytellers, with our song, writing, and art.†Nina grouped up with Haunt, and Grond bellowed “We’re almost at the Tavern, new folks. Better yet, I’m almost at my alcohol!†Red chuckled, and was about to rib him about his choice of words, but then she saw a Legion patrolman approaching them, his horse in an extended trot. The band stopped to let the patrolman meet with them, and Sindri, who had previously been making circles around the band, stood by Akash.

When the patrolman had met up with the band, he spoke “I and several other patrolmen have been told to intercept anyone heading to or passing by Dragon Bridge, in search at least one of three things. This includes two men, a redguard by the name of Carter and an imperial by the name of Duncan, and a ‘scarab key.’ You wouldn’t happen to have those two men or the key, would you?†Red spoke up as Savior took a few steps forward “No Duncans and Carters here, but we do have a scarab key, and we're not exactly sure what we're supposed to do with it.†The imperial nodded and looked over the group, then looked back at Red, saying "Good, now if you hand the scarab key over, you will be paid handsomely for the endeavor." Before anyone could say or do anything, Grond spat out "Deal." Nina took the scarab key from one of her pockets, and handed it over to the imperial.

"Thank you, ma'am, and here is the reward. I'll leave you to your business now." The patrolman handed Nina a respectably sized sack of coins, who then handed the money to Grond. Once the group was on the move again, some discussion between Nina, Grond, and Red was had over the significance of the patrolman’s inquiring about Duncan and Carter. But that was eventually eclipsed by their return to the Tavern as the lumber mill, stables, and Tavern itself was now insight. Once the band’s horses were secured at the stables, Grond spoke to Nina, Red, and Haunt about dividing the coin sack amongst one another as they walked into the Tavern.

Akash, Glynis, and Berach stayed behind to take in the details of the Mill Tavern. While petting Sindri, Akash discussed with his companions “Before going off to search for the bosmer merchant we were assigned to rescue, let’s wait here until our companions have rested up. It’s not necessary, but extra hands would definitely be helpful this round.†Berach nodded, while Glynis glanced at the Tavern, and looked back at Akash “Yes, very well. Not sure how far we’re going to get around with the one nord, Nina. She thinks I’m out to turn them all into the Thalmor.†Akash looked at Berach, then up at Glynis “I’ll try my hand at getting her to loosen up.†He returned his gaze to Berach “In the meanwhile, we’re basically sitting around and making friends, although I’d like for you to make additional potions, in preparation for potential allies who join up with us.â€

Berach nodded again, and the trio set off to enter the Tavern and arrange with its caretakers for what they thought would be temporary residence.

  12. So, I figured out how to get a working duplicate of the Sabre cat to get a new race. Now I have another question; when I drag & drop what I want to be its racial ability, it appears to take it in at the race menu, but when I close & reopen the race menu, the CK acts as if nothing happened. Not even the * character to denote editing.

Has anyone else here encountered something similar and/or know a solution/explanation?

  13. I as well am having race issues, although in my case I am attempting to create a duplicate of the SabreCatSnowy race. The model doesn't render in the preview, and what I've seen just by manually scrolling through the race tabs suggests nothing (visible) has changed.

  14. Berach

    Category: Secondary Player Character.

    Alias(es):

    Race: Breton.

    Age: 47.

    Guardian Stone: The Atronach.

    Profession(s): Alchemist, Merchant.

Special Ability/Abilities: Allied with a pack of wolves as a product of his days as a werewolf; to this day he is still on good terms with them.

Physical Appearance: Berach is of an average build for a breton, and sports short, black colored hair with and van dyke facial hair. His eyes are brown colored. A scar runs down his right cheek which was inflicted upon him by a dagger wielded by a member of the Silver Hand.

Personality & Hobbies: Berach speaks with a formal, sometimes business-like quality to newcomers, although as he gets to know them better, his vocabulary loosens up. Berach tends to be the one who makes proposals to his companions or to others, but in most casual situations he prefers not to stir anything up and for the most part keeps to himself. When he does interact with others, Berach avoid having his opinions show through or affect his decision making for the sake of diplomacy, although he will discuss his views in private. When at his 'home base' and with free time on his hands, Berach makes illustrations of anything of interest to him, mostly illustrations of ideas for potions and poisons, or pictures of ingredients and/or their owner(s), and of the wolf pack he has secretly allied with.

Once a month, he will venture out into the wilds, almost always alone, to visit the wolf pack he has allied with and see what has happened to them in his absence.

Equipment: Berach wears light colored robes with a similarly colored hood, and wields a staff of illusion.

    Pet(s):

Mount: Lahja, a 7 year old bay mare.
