  1. Nice being able to open them in Nifskope now; though I suspect waiting for Blender support may take more patience than I'm usually blessed with!

I wonder what's the difference between the _0 and _1 files (nothing I can see at a casual glance) and what they're for? I have noticed that if they're not in synch it causes visual weirdness but I've no idea what's the purpose of the new scheme.

They're for the bodyweight variation. _0 is the slimmest size, _1 the biggest.

  2. Super late, but I'll weigh in for future reference:

Typically, I assemble LOD by hand. Individual cell images will be in a subfolder within the LOD folder, named according to their coordinates. You can align then together easily enough, and it actually gives you a higher resolution image than the standard generated LOD. It's not a fast or fun process by any means, but it gets the job done if nothing else will.

  3. Are you sure you're not confusing steam with whatever new service EA (?) is rolling out? I've heard those things about it, but not Steam. Either way, you're overestimating the amount of control it has. They're not going to be reading your emails or documents. It tracks how much you play games, which games you play, and, I think, sites you visit on the internet. Google does just as much; facebook and amazon get close. You have every right to not play Skyrim, but don't think that you're anonymous on the internet.

  4. The "size" the texture appears at is actually determined by the model, specifically, the UV map echo mentioned. A UV(W) map is basically a projection of your 3d model onto a flat plane which tells it what part of the image is assigned to which polygon. Without remapping the model, all you can do is resize the source images in reference to the textures, making them smaller and putting them next to each other, then making them match at the edges. There is no one "game size" that will make them look right, you have to scale them in reference to the models you're using them on.

  5. I have water cooling on my original PC, and (sadly) air cooling on others since. I greatly prefer water cooling, mostly because of how quiet it is. Fan noise is really distracting when trying to play/watch movies without headphones. Others have laid out the other points, so I'm not going to repeat them.

However, I've read that they need as much or more maintenance as air cooled systems.

Other than adding additional water in there a couple times, we never had to do any sort of maintenance. On the other hand, I clean my insides from dust fairly often, and have to pick loose wires out of the fan once in a while.

  6. Seconds. SECONDS. After making this thread, I solved the problem. I try and fix something to 3 hours, no exadurating, no luck. I make a thread BAM INSTANT GENIUS MOMENT and the problem is solved!!!!

Happens to me all the time. I've incorporated whining on irc/chat about issues into my troubleshooting procedure. I'm pretty sure our computers are sentient and like to know that we care enough to ask for help.

  7. It's really sad when someone who does this for free with cheap/free tools can make something infinitely better than paid professionals.

Very little of what is produced by the community is actually better than what Bethesda makes, and even that would not be possible had Beth not made the game first. The game improves by modding not so much because the quality of the actual content goes up, but because it is tailored to the player. Modders can do what they do because they aren't restricted by deadlines, money, a design document, hardware, etc. And, lastly, lets give Beth (who work hard on Skyrim, whether we end up liking the game or not) half the respect we demand be given to modders. They are people too.

  8. 1) Yes, but only on the side. I don't usually go out of my way to do them, and prefer when they have some sort of tangible ingame benefit.

    2) Yes, I love multiple endings.

    3) Anything from Super Easy to Challenging. Sometimes I just want to kill things, other times I like to think. I don't find uber-hard, next to impossible puzzles any fun, though.

  9. ill write your names down so i dont forget or is there an add friends on here some where

Click the little square with an arrow next to someone's username. In the bottom left-hand corner of the tooltip that pops up, there is a button with a little green man and a +. Click that to add someone as a friend.

    Welcome to the alliance!

  10. There are a couple different water texture options if you right click your cell name and go to Edit. I don't think there's anything exactly like what you're looking for, but you can experiment.

One option could be to create a custom worldspace and build your interior within it. This would also give you access to the landscape editor, and real skies. Just go to World>Worldspaces, right click the list and select New. Name it, save, and it's ready to go.

  11. 1) It's not possible to create soil in an interior cell. Your best bet is to use existing flowerpots or to make a custom mesh.

    2) You may be able to delete just the roof with some nifskope alchemy, and there may be floor-only pieces under the exterior tab. A custom model is another option.

    3) Purple meshes are a sign of missing textures.

    4) No idea, sorry. I have a cell at 950 refs (720k faces) that runs fine, though.

  12. Finished up the dungeon :) I'll be adding more detail later on, but it is now fully functional. Now I've just got to test how it all works with the quest.

Screenshots below. I've hidden them, since they feature locations towards the end of the dungeon.

The fires (with the exception of the blue ones) and the lamp are scripted. They start as turned off, and can be turned on by the player. The dungeon is realistically dark - don't forget to bring a torch!

  13. Anyway, it seems odd that we would be executed in a cave, I presume that must be the escape route that lets us survive. I would guess it would be in some kind of prison or fort in the location you guys have pinpointed.

I believe one of the articles stated that this start was tailored specifically to the demo.
