Yea, I joined straight away when if first started the game because it seemed like a good way to get my feet on the ground and get some experience for some quick leveling. Right and wrong. Melee based "baby" characters will have a harder time then mage oriented characters. I would suggest saving this questline for later simply because you can get better equipment as rewards for particular parts of the questline.
I personally went with the Stormcloaks 98% of the time. Tried Imperials twice. Kind of boring imo. That and I can justify the SC's reason for fighting more than I can the Imperials.
Without spoiling much for you, you could probably equate the SC's to the rebels from Starwars and the Imperials to... well... the Imperials.

Sadly, I only have this for 360. Still trying to pay off that PC.
I'm working on getting a capture card so I can at least show you guys my characters.
Skal-Tel: Argonian
"Those damned Imperials. They tried to kill an innocent such as myself! Everyone heard at that execution that I was not on that list, but that spineless captain still ordered my execution! Praise Sithis that dragon came along. He takes care of his children. Of course I would join the Stormcloaks after I escaped that damned village during the dragon attack. I was brought in with them and practically branded as one; might as well kill like one, right? Eventually they came to accept me, depend on me. They were my new family now. Whatever I had had before I had given up when I was captured.
"Later I would get myself involved 'accidentally' with the Dark Brotherhood. Truth was that I had been seeking them for months and had finally tracked them down, though I must say that it was a rather ingenious way in which I got myself accepted into their family. It wasn't easy, but I managed. I wasn't exactly the 'typical murderer. Not many of them used their magic as I did for their advantage. My illusion skills, coupled with Alteration certainly made things a lot easier and sometimes entertaining.
"It soon became apparent, however, that my interests changed as often as the seasons, and soon I was off in search of other adventure. I finally came to realize that I may never settle down, but instead wander and explore to the end of my days. I met a man in a town called Riften and he asked me a favor. He wanted to put someone out of business. There was some good pay in it backed by my strong pride in my skills so I eagerly obliged. Later he told me about the 'organization', as he called it, that he was with. Deciding that it was nothing more than a new page in the history of my life I decided to join, and, I have to admit, their line of work was quite... tantalizing..."
Just a small recount from my character's perspective. Yea, he's a mage. Argonian mage. Specializes in Conjuration and Destruction. Decided to go with this build second since I had yet to play a pure mage.

@Don: you win, hands down.
This is my current desktop on this particular computer. I have another on my laptop.
Lately i've been in a real supportive mood for the military. I mean, i've always supported them, but have had a much stronger feeling toward them as of late. Why i dunno. A similar "state" inspired me to write this a while back as well. It was inspired by the phrase "War, war never changes...." from the Fallout series. It just sort of blossomed form there.

LOVE clayman. he's strangely cute.
ok. so do I have a story for you guys. So I was driving down 21 earlier today, a highway that leads into my town, with a semi coming the opposite direction. Well for whatever reason the semi started to jackknife, which im not surprised by given the iced over conditions of 21. Well guess where his trailer went? right across my lane. So he's sliding toward me and I go to hit my breaks. Thats a no go because im sliding just as bad, even in 4-wheel drive. I did panic for a sec before I remembered all the messing and sliding around that I used to do in my parent's cars in parking lots and such for kicks and giggles. W/ no way to stop, I turned my steering wheel to the right and ended up doing a 180. When I got turned around I gunned the engine and managed to stop that way, head the opposite direction, and turn onto a dirt road that I had happened to pass. luckily there was no one behind me so I could do that. I watched as the semi slid on by and came to a stop roughly 100ft or so past the road that I had just turned on.
Thank goodness for controlled recklessness, quick thinking, and the big man upstairs watching out for me. Wont see me in the news though. The semi driver was the only witness to it and the stupid local papers claim that thats not enough evidence to confirm that it actually happened. >.=.< that would have been cool though to be on the news and such.

Stormcloak or Imperial?
in Skyrim General
Posted
I always choose Stormcloaks because while I don't agree with everything that they've done or stand for, I can sympathize with their cause. I wouldn't want an empire that surrendered to the Thalmor to rule over me either, especially since we already suceeded from them them. They spread themselves too thing before and couldnt protect themselves, why should we let them rule us again?
And I'm sure that the fact that, in my playthroughs, an argonian helps them is kind of like a kick in the seat to the imperials.
