I'm no modeller so please forgive me if my suggestion is unworkable, but I do know that it's possible to copy and paste entire mesh blocks in NifSkope. If one of the Blender/3DSMax Gurus here can fashion a simple disc as an armour piece, it could possibly be added to the front of the armour for the emblem or logo.
As for the appearance... it looks great so far! I wonder if St Alessia's bodyguards would be wearing this?

In real life the "in" version would have been easier to make. However, dripping water would find its way into the pot. The lid on the "out" version would prevent dripping water from going inside. So the answer depends on where it is being used!
But for a visual preference, I prefer "in".
