  1. Welcome to TESA! :cookie4u:

I suggest that you update your installed mods and clean your gamesaves in Wrye Bash, because gamesaves store old game data from your game and make sure you have these tools installed too. :)

    TES5Edit (clean dirty mods)

    BOSS (sort out your loadorder)

Wrye Bash (necessary for a stable game)

    Also read these important threads.

  2. What Jada says. Or you can just copy the shortcut by dragging it to the start menu while holding down the CTRL-key on your keyboard and place it where you want it. Once there simple release the left mouse button.

  3. In case you're not aware of this, but ElricM is now a defunct site and here is more information about it.

Also check MMH again because OldeCow69 had a recent database backup for most mods on ElricM, so if you want to know more about what happen with the mods on ElricM then I suggest that you talk with Jac since he's a High Magister on GHF and he'll have more inside information than me about those mods.

  4. Morrowind's charm takes time to sink in. In terms of graphics and game mechanics, (spellcasting, combat etc.) Morrowind was not as well developed as Oblivion or Skyrim so first impressions are understandably not so good if you've played the other games.

It charm lies in its depth. For starters, the storyline was a lot deeper. You had no idea what you were doing there but each quest completed brought you new clues and a step closer until your full destiny is all tied together close to the end. Compare: Skyrim = Dragonborn + Dragons, Oblivion = Amulet of Kings + Oblivion gates. Morrowind's main quest cannot be summarised into two words.

    <snip>

I agree. I would like to add something else that's related to what you just said.

I really miss the possibility to enchant items in-game (only sigil stones could be used in Oblivion) in later games, but also the ability to use alchemy (Skyrim have alchemy tables) whenever you want if there were no enemies around.

  5. Have you been a victim for the new "Legal" threat there is circulating for some time now on the internet? I haven't heard of such thing before until one of my friends told me about it earlier today since he got it on his computer yesterday and so far I haven't got it yet (of course you can't be absolutely sure these days can you?) . What he told me is indeed scary and that's about a new "legal" trojan called police.trojan aka ransomware by security experts and one of them is from Sweden (sorry only a Swedish blog), which has some indications of where the trojan has its origin, but haven't been able to examine the trojan more intensively atm.

To make it simple... You're falsely accused for crimes you didn't commit and they have locked everything on your computer plus they demand you to pay penalty of 100 euro to unlock your computer and once they receive your money (some people are reporting that they pay 100 euro, but have their computer being unlocked hell no they haven't and are still locked) your computer will be unlocked, but in the mean time they steal every piece of information you have stored on your HDD. Your best bet to get rid of this trojan is to read this information provided by another Swede since he also got this "legal" trojan into his computer and managed to get rid of it based of his computer knowledge. Information like this or this might be helpful too.

  6. I always start with cleaning out the Recycle Bin. Sometimes we delete things and just forget to clean out the Recycle Bin. Look at what is listed there and make sure that everything which you have told at some point to delete is really supposed to go.

That's a good idea to clean out all junk files, but it's also important to do other things too and all these programs are freeware.

    Auslogics Registry Cleaner

    Auslogics Registry Defrag

    Auslogics Duplicate File Finder

Thanks Arion for mentioned Auslogics Disk Defrag. I've using it for years to my satisfaction.

  7. There is also the BSAReg tool to do just what Jac mention and it's required to have BSAReg.exe in either the Morrowind or the Morrowind\Data Files folder to register any BSA file in the Data Files folder.

If you use Wrye Mash then it's a lot easier to both install/uninstall a BSA based mod. Just remember to run BSAReg after you install or uninstall a BSA mod.

  8. It depends what mods you're using if any, but my guess is that you use a mod that has been created with the old CK version and using such mod with the latest game patch can be the cause.

I had a similar issue my self, so I know how it looks like in-game and in my case I got frustrated in the end. :(

There is also the chance that you use a mod which was created with TESVsnip and such mods shouldn't be used at all, because mods like that are known to corrupt your game.

  9. If it's already insanely simple, I apologize. However, I'd like to know how to convert other file formats to DDS. (I have a nagging suspicion that it involves more than just opening the image in Paint.net and clicking Save As.)

Paint.NET can save a TGA file into a DDS format, but you need to use the Save As command with the DDS format. Another tool would be Gimp, but I've no idea how to convert files into a DDS file in Gimp though.

  10. Have you tried to open it with WinRAR or move the archive somewhere else? If you can't move it or you can't open it then the archive is to damaged and can't be repaired, so I suggest that you jump over to the officials and ask the FCOM+OOO people there or read this on TESCosi.

Just for reference. You can't open a BSA with 7zip instead you need to use OBMM or OBMM-Extended (the Extended version is recommended) and use its internal BSA Browser.

  11. That doesn't just affect Morrowind either. That's going to be site wide due to IGN layoffs. That could mean problems for Oblivion modding as well since it's one of the few places to find things like Qarl's Texture Pack.

What makes this worse though is that it appears as though file downloads via the PES pages are all fubar. They are downloading into the browser as text rather than as proper archives. So it may already be too late to do anything here.

I don't know how many of us here care, I only used them as a mirror, but there it is. At least there's notice, for whatever that's worth.

I know it says they're only going to stop accepting new files, but since there will be no tech staff, the site will be living on borrowed time once May rolls around.

You still can download mods on FilePlanet if you can wait before the page is up, but I wouldn't rely on that to long instead I'm gonna to look into the permission of Qarl's Texture Pack plus for other mods too.

This confirms the broken links on PES.

  12. If you want to use MGSO with Morrowind Rebirth then you must disable the grass in the MGSO installation, because Morrowind Rebirth isn't compatible with animated grass yet plus there are other mods that might conflict.

Below can you read more about the broken links on PES and FilePlanet.

Relative to the Morrowind Code Patch, as you know, besides fixing bugs, it adds new features like enabling statics to stop rain or snow. I'm sure you can appreciate how useful this is to someone who makes exterior homes. :)

I agree it's nice to fix the rain/snow glitch with MCP, but like I said earlier MCP only fix bugs with the game engine so it isn't an exterior improvement in-game. FYI MMH is online again. :)

  13. I've always thought Morrowind was the best of the Elder Scoll games, at least through Oblivion. Now there are a variety of powerful mods that bring Morrowind into the current age. Some of these, like the Morrowind Code Patch, may allow a more realistic exterior home than is possible with Oblivion.

INFORMATION: If you are installing Morrowind on a new system, you must install Morrowind, then Tribunal, then Bloodmoon. Other orders don't work.

At present, I have MGE, the Morrowind Code Patch, and Real SignPosts installed. I plan to install Morrowind Patch Project Next.

Still is because of the depth in-game which Oblivion doesn't have, but the graphics is much better in Oblivion than Morrowind in vanilla anyway.

Morrowind Code Patch or we in the MW-community often say MCP has only one purpose and that's to fix glitches in the game like the Alchemy name bug plus a lot of other bugs, but AFAIK MCP has nothing to do with more realistic exterior in-game unless MCP has an exterior bug to fix.

That's a correct installation order, but you don't need to install any patches if you have the GotY version.

Installation of Morrowind with all expansions (Tribunal, Bloodmoon) have exactly the same process like Oblivion, because once the installation is finished the game has been patched to the latest.

I do have one minor problem right now. I believe Real Sign Posts is an essential mod. I've never played Morrowind without it. However, now, whenever I start Morrowind, I get an error message: "One or more plugins could not find the correct versions of the master files they depend on. ....". Fortunately, the message provides the option to continue anyway. I do and everything works as it should, including the sign posts. If I uncheck RealSignPosts.esp, the error goes away.

I've downloaded all the official patches for Morrowind, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon. but have not installed them. I think I heard that installing Bloodmoon patched the other files. If there is a way to determine the revision of each of these, I don't know how.

This is where I am now. If you can provide help or have Morrowind tweak information you would like to share, please do.

That's normal and it simple means that you need to update the masterlist for the esm/esp, which you can do in two ways first load the plugin (only esp) into CS then save it or you can update the masterlist (the same thing will work in both Wrye Mash and Wrye Bash not sure about Wrye Bash for Skyrim) in Wrye Mash on the Mods tab.

Every error you get is often stored in the Warnings.txt file in the \Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind game folder. These two errors below are normal and can be ignored.

    Texture "Textures\_land_default.tga" count 3.

    Texture "Textures\menu_thick_border_bottom_right_corner.dds" count 2.

Personally I don't consider the Real Sign Posts mod as an essential mod, but many people have some of these listed mods in their loadorder and that reminds me to mention mlox which is an definitely essential tool for a modded game.

See above about patching of the Bloodmoon installation.

Yes you can determine what version you have by launching your game and look to your left bottom in the game menu or pressing the ESC key in-game, but MCP installed will show the MCP version.

    Retail version

    • Morrowind - 1.2.0722
    • Tribunal - 1.4.1313 (you can install this patch over the 1.3.x version)
    • Bloodmoon - 1.6.1820

    Steam version

    • Morrowind - 1.2.0722
    • Tribunal - 1.3/1.4 (not sure if you can install the 1.4 patch over the 1.3 patch)
    • Bloodmoon - 1.6.1820
    • TES CS Patch (only work with Steam version of Morrowind)

Here some tweaks you can do by your self. Open the Morrowind.ini in Notepad and add/change these lines.
