Entering a command line using the tilde key

Question...In my recent inquiries I`ve learned that the tilde key allows me to enter a command lind to alter certain aspects of the Oblivion world. I took note of the cautions and chose a seemingly simple line to gain 100k gold. The tilde key didn`t function and I had to go into my system to disable the IR remote ability (which I never use anyway). Now the tilde key icon comes up in the lower left as it should and the game freezesm waiting patiently for my guidence, but when I type in the command it`s as if the caps lock is on. It`s not. I backed out without altering anything and came running here. Whaddya think...am I just missing something or does it act like that. In game, I dont have to toggle the capslock to run all the time. I did before.

Console commands are not case sensitive so you should be able to enter the commands anyway, even if it appears caplocked.

Also, a bit of trivia.

Its not the tilde key, its the backwards apostrophe. In order to press ~ one must first press shift, and to enter the console, it does not require the pressing of shift.

Yes I can enter without the shift key. So when I try to enter numbers and instead I get symbols...it`s ok? For instance I type 100 (it works here I see) I get !)) on screen,in game. Somethings gotta be wrong. I just don`t want to do something that`ll mess up my saved game level.

Have you tried holding shift while you type numbers? Does that make a difference or does it still come up as symbols?

Unless you're on laptop the number pad at the right of the keyboard could also work for you.

Hard to say but my best guess is maybe you're running an OBSE based MOD that fakes a constant Shift press. You could test that by disabling all your MODs temporarily and seeing if the problem persists.

Cool, I`ll try the shift key hold. No I haven`t loaded any mods yet. I`m still very new to the modding art. Even though I`ve been playing the Elder Scrolls since Morrowind, I was never exposed to these options. I find all of this very facinating. Thanx, I`ll let you know. Also, I,ve been devouring all the Wiki`s I can find.
