[OB] Invocation to the modgods!

Hey guys!

So I am new here, both to TESA and to modding in general; I've never made a mod before but I have been reading up on it on here and other sites and decided to try my hand at it!

What I am unsure of is this:

I want to start small and get into larger projects, and I wanted to start using Oblivion and the CS. But I don't want to make a mod that nobody is interested in! So I was wondering if there are still mods being made/played in Oblivion, or would it be better for me to just start off with Skyrim?

I eventually want to do at least little things with all three games, but I just really don't know where to start. So this is a formal invocation to the gods of TES modding! Please help! All suggestions will be appreciated :)

My advice: Try OB classes.  Try Skyrim classes.  The game and the editor you prefer will be the game you mod.  Do the classes to gain the skills.  An idea of your perfect mod will come to you during the classes and through talking to the great people here.

Welcome!  :toast: & :cookie4u:

Welcome and good luck with your modding! I tried my hand at the CS for Oblivion back before my PC version of it broke. It added an evil vampire castle in the Leyawiin region.

But good luck in your lessons and may the mods be ever in your favour!

Yes, I believe there are still mods being made for Oblivion and Morrowind. Even if there weren't, though, no one says you can't mod for yourself! Just be warned that Morrowind tutorials aren't as centralized as the others- you'll have to scour the net for them.

That is so true! I thought about starting with Morrowind but resources and tutorials are so hard to find! I want to eventally though :P

Thanks all for the advice, and I will definitely be going through all the tutorials I possibly can...I feel like I have so much to catch up on!

Heck yes, mods are still being made for Oblivion! My wife and I are 27 months into a very large Oblivion mod project and finally nearing a beta release. We have no intention of abandoning it. Skyrim is getting most of the focus, of course, because it's the new system, but not only are Oblivion mods still being added and updated, but Morrowind is still getting a few mods, even though it's several years older than Oblivion.

The tools for Skyrim are more advanced than for Oblivion, but honestly I think it's worth learning at least the basics of Oblivion modding for exactly that reason -- Oblivion's relative simplicity makes it more approachable to a new modder.

I agree with the other advice given about the tutorials on TES Alliance. They're excellent. There are also some good tutorials on the Construction Set Wiki.
