  1. Thanks for all the comments! Ah, you see right through my texture. I did start with the render clouds as my base and did some layering from there. It probably could use more work, but that was my first attempt at a handpainted metal texture (using some brushes from the internet). I'd like to try it again sometime, and I'll keep your suggestions in mind. As for the helmet, the reason it looks more blocky is due to the low poly count. 1975 tri, 1024 vert. Different game, different optimization requirements. and the bump map sucks, I know. Thanks for the critiques, they were well received. Texture flat, since I had I had on hand
  2. Mine I made up for myself for an online RP forum for the TV series Battlestar Galactica. Dunno, CounterPoint had a pilot's callsign ring to it at the time. Been my online username ever since for gaming related stuff. I would have it for Windows live too, but some bastard took my name. Hey lanceor, you wouldn't happen to have an account over at taleworlds by the same name, now would you? Please say no.
  3. I prefer to make open face helmets, those seem to be the right mix of satisfaction vs effort required. I've started with armors, but they take a lot of model work to achieve anything satisfying. And the texture, that takes a while too. I can model weapons pretty easily now too. Architecture in interesting too.
  4. Thanks, but there are some real 3D wizards where I come from
  5. Hey, I've lurked these forums before to nab a few Oblivion mods. I think it's high time I joined the community, both here and at the Nexus. I guess I'll introduce myself with a story.... A friend of mine gave me his PC GOTY Oblivion copy. At first I was a bit skeptical, but I hadn't really played many RPGs. My first RPG experience was Fable TLC, followed by the Witcher (on a slight tangent there). Anyways, I decided to give it a go, and actually liked the game a lot. But, soon I discovered the world of Oblivion mods, first at the Nexus, and through various links I ended up here for a few as well. Needless to say, I registered at both sites back in the spring, and have been casually lurking since. The first forum I was ever really active on was Taleworlds forum, which is where I first taught myself how to mod, using M&B: Warband. I taught myself retexure work, then full blown 3d models and their textures. Now I've learned the coding aspect and am working on completing my first full module. I also hope to get into TES modding, which will be a refreshing new challenge and learning experience. So, that's my story..... Now, first thoughts upon posting on this site.... Post approval? Had bad luck with the lesser part of humanity internet etiquette (or lack thereof) ? I guess the rumors are true that they run a tight ship 'round here. Looking forward to experiencing this community. Anway, any recommended threads to read for me? What are your favorite places to visit in the forums here? I posted another topic in the casual projects thread to show off some of my 3d art (awaiting approval, unfortunately )
  6. I'm new to these forums, but I'd thought I'd share some of my casual 3d modelling work with the community here. A little bit about myself: I'm a gamer-turned-modder. I started modding an indie game called Mount and Blade: Warband. I learned how to make 3d models/textures for that engine using Wings3d, a free 3d modelling application. I've learned the scripting aspect of that game now (a little bit), and am now privately developing my own partial conversion mod. I never bothered to read a tutorial about Wings, but I somehow managed to hash together these models. See their quality (or lack thereof) Comments welcome. IMAGE HEAVY Works in Progress -- Some have been that way for a while, but maybe someday I'll finish them. Done and done (not rendered) Completed works (rendered in-game)
