Ah you just start small. Pick a topic that interests you and go from there.   :woot:  Trying to learn Lore as a general thing IS very daunting. Just pick some part of it you like and learn all you can about it. Then when you have, pick something new!

Often though, in many instances, Drakes and Dragons are 2 different creatures. Drakes are like lesser dragons. Theres also a Wyvern, which is interchangable with Dragon, but sometimes used as a different creature as well. It really depends on the context. Its like a triangle with Drake, Wyvern, and Dragon on each corner. They can be used interchangably or as different things.

It's strange that septims (or drakes) are only mentioned in Morrowind and not Oblivion.

Calling money "Gold" is not as cool as calling it "Septims" or "Drakes".  aa_biggrin.gif

Though the only known dragons is the one the Empire had in Redguard (Nafaalilargus), the common dragonlings in High Rock and Hammerfell, Akatosh and Peyrite in some way.

What I like about Elder Scrolls' dragons is that they are not the typical fantasy dragon who stashes countless amount of gold and artifacts, waiting for brave adventurers to take them. Instead, they are the Empire's symbol and are not entitled to serving the Empire. They do as they wish and like to chat with the humans when it's possible (According to some Daggerfall books).

Too bad the Cliff Racers killed them all in Vvardenfell... though we all know it's just a reason to explain that the Devs didn't want dragons in Morrowind..  aa_tongue.gif

Cliffracers killed off the dragons in Morrowind?!...For reals?

LOL No. St. Jiub, who you may remember from the beginning of Morrowind, was sainted for exterminating all the Cliffracers in Morrowind.  :lmao:

The Tsaeci of Akavir are credited with killing off the Dragons, according to legend anyway. The texts are a bit confusing on this issue. They are also said to have "eaten" the men of Akavir but, thanks to Pale Pass, we know that's not strictly true. It's far more likely that "Eaten" means conquered. So, there may still be dragons alive in Akavir but bent to the will of Tsaeci.

they are the Empire's symbol.-snip-.

The Imperial Dragon symbol actually came from Akavir where dragons do roam; it was adopted by the Imperial Emperors later when the conflicts with Akavir were settled. The symbol is still present in Cloud Ruler, which was once an Akaviri outpost.

See how much fun learning lore is V?  aa_tongue.gif

None that I could find.

After a little deeper searching on the subject, Cliff is not entirely wrong, or rather we're both right!   aa_tongue.gif  According to this page:  http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dragons There was a second breed of Dragons driven from Vvardenfell's shores by the Cliffracers along with those that  lived in Akavir.

Bit more on the intelligence of Akaviri Dragons as well. From that page:  "Little is known of them, but they are very intelligent and were capable of communication with Nedic visitors to Akavir years ago."
