Oblivion Settins -CRASH-

Well, I finally got Oblivion reinstalled and now every time I try and change the settings, oblivion crashes on exit, resulting in the settings being unsaved.

I'm using Windows 7 Release Candidate, and have tried a number of compatbablity options such as run as Admin, in XP (SP2 and SP3), 2000 Vista.

They all result in a crash on exit, just in slightly different ways.

Are there any programs I could use to change the settings? Thanks. I'm also guessing that the settings are stored in oblivion's ini file, but I can't quite understand what everthing is.  :ninja:

Thanks!

there are some mods that do the same thing as well, WhoGuru sent me a link a while back now to a mod that uses OBSE and saves the INI on exit and closes the program without crashing.

FastExit.. or was it FastExit 2... i think it was the latter, not the former.

It's Fast Exit 2. Here's a link:  http://www.tesnexus....le.php?id=22410

This does require OBSE of course but will keep your game from crashing when you quit. It will not however stop the game crashing/freezing randomly while you're playing. Fast Exit 2 functions like your task bar. When you choose "Quit" in the Oblivion menu, FE2 saves your ini settings and then forces the program to quit to desktop.

If you're crashing every time you change a setting in game, perhaps your ini has a corrupt line of code somewhere. Mine did and it kept me from playing.   aa_wall.gif  Try deleting it and letting the game generate a new one. Save a copy of course before you delete it, just in case.   aa_tongue.gif

Ah, that'll be useful too. Thanks.   Deleting the .ini has no effect other than going back to default settings.

Unless a corrupt line of code is spawning in your ini, as it was in mine. Or missing lines of code even as I also had at one point. It does happen. Deleting the ini and allowing it create a new one can sometimes help. Being able to compare the old with the new can also help you track down if it is your ini that is causing your problems.

Not that this is necessarily your problem but it is a suggestion.   aa_biggrin.gif

And thanks in turn from me for that mod--just what I need!  Though my crashes-on-exit aren't that common, they are annoying and I'd sooner dispense with them altogether.

You're welcome! It was the hanging for upwards of ten minutes on exit that prompted me to find an alternative!    It is a fantastic little plug in and I've not crashed on exiting once since installing it.   :woot:
