Permanent Summons?

i recently ran across an interesting bug, er somthing like that. One instance happened while i was inside an oblivion gate. i summoned a clanfear, and ended up saving and exiting the game while it was still summoned. when i returned to my game, he was still there, but w/ no summon counter. i checked to make sure he was mine, and it said "Glaedr's Clanfear". i was like "sweet!". he actually followed me around till i got to the sigil keep, and took off after the enemies up there as soon as i entered the room. He took on both dremora sorcerers and their summons. :lmao: and survived. aa_mellow.gif after that he just walked away, still tagged as mine. aa_mellow.gif

another instance was w/ a gloom wraith that i summoned while in the 3rd spire in the Lost spire's mod. this time however, he did not follow me, and stayed in his lil corner. I did not save and exit w/ this one, but he stayed anyway. i went and finished the quest and he was still there.

so any ideas on whats going on?

The game can lose "track" of summoned creatures, which then separates them from the spell. Especially easy reproduceable with NPC summons: If they summon a creature, leave the cell, safe, shut down Oblivion, restart, load, go into the cell - a good chance that the creature now is no more associated with the spell and stays forever (or until slain).

I once had one of LAME's secret merchants summon Ancestor Guardians (which are in LAME flying balls of fire), after a while the whole cell was full of them! Needless to say I changed what kind of spell the merchant trains...

oh, ok, so its just one of those freak chance things then. hmm.... interesting. but should they not just keep following you then? or since they were separated from the spell they act as normal, though not hostile to you?

Their base actions are to follow you. Look up the summoned creatures in the CS and you'll see they have low aggression and have a follow player package. So acting "normal" for them is to follow you around.

well, after the clanfear went on his little godzilla rampage, he stopped following me, but didnt attack me. by normal i ment just like any other Oblivi gate clanfear, cept w/o attacking me.

Actually it looks like summoned creatures don't have followplayer in their ai list as default but I bet the spell adds the package to the creature. Once the creature gets too distracted it will revert back to the normal packages it contains which are some wander packages. It is not attacking you simply because it has too low aggression and is not part of any hostile factions.

But yeah oblivion spells can get glitchy sometimes, though I've never experienced this aa_mellow.gif

Should I make a Xixilai that follows you 24/7 and thats essential?, I could do it in a min if you want. <img src='http://tesalliance.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/aa_biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Or better yet make a spell that is a racial ability for Dark Elves (obviously the coolest! :hugs:) that can be cast for 0 mana as much as you like and makes 7 Xixilai follow you!
