[REQz] Flags for castles/cities

So I've been wondering about this one for a long time. Why is it that the only things in the vanilla game that have anything remotely like a flag are ships? Even those aren't terribly great.

Why don't cities, palaces, and castles fly anything other than wall banners? Surely you should be able to see a nice big flag flying high overhead from the walls or the roof, right?

So that's basically what I'm requesting. I think it would add a missing touch of realism to have flags, large ones, able to place in the game and fly over the city castles and perhaps even the IC itself. It would be nice to have at least two versions - one the size of a garrison flag and one more the size of a normal flag. There should be one for each city, Kvatch included. Added bonus if the flags are able to appear to be flapping in the breeze. It would make for a nice resource

The textures themselves I'd imagine would be relatively simple, using the vanilla textures. But someone needs to model the flags and an animation would be nice as well, to make them actually move as though in the breeze? Makes me wish I could model as I would love to have this as well!

I'll nudge our resident modelers next time they get on and send them here, see if they'd be interested in taking this on. :lmao:

Yes, those are penants though and they're not really what I was after. But for kicks I tossed the Chorrol banner texture on it and that's not compatible with the UV map and I've no idea how to fix that so that the tree emblem from the banner is what shows. The size and shape of castlechorrolbanner01.dds looks like it would be about right for the kind of flag, but the orientation of the tree would need to be modified so that it's right-side-up for the long side of the image. Probably being too picky about this.

One last necro nudge.... is there truly nobody interested in this sort of thing?

hi Arthmoor,

I've been puzzled by the same thing while creating some items necessary for my own module and especially Fort Akatosh Redux. I always thought it would be amazing (even) to have somehow an animated item atop the walls. You did mention it doesn't have to be animated. However i think to do it properly ..without animation it would look like a static sign on top of the walls.

So although there's not exactly wind blowing.. a basic flowing animation would be lovely. I can't make any promises, but i've seen Mr.Sikka's Modules mentioned. So i'll look into the packages meshes. See if i can come up with a useful adaptation.

But the adaptation to several textures of different kinds of cities for example i highly doubt will be a huge problem in the end.

Penants - Flags -> What size are you personally looking after actually? As large as one of the doors used in houses?

Cheers.

A little preview of the flags requested. Every town will have it's own symbol on top of it. Bravil i'm still working on. Probably going to add one or two extra. Probably the Imperial Legion and a pirate flag yarrr.

They are animated used a morph system which i tried to mimick a flowing pattern.

Cheers.

ps: i will probably also release this is a modders resource.

ps2: they will of course have a flagpole and perhaps wires/rope.
