Screen Capture Tips for Morrowind

Alright! This thread is a work in progress. Anyone well versed in the use of the console for taking Screenshots in Morrowind please weigh in here. :)

As a start, you can use the console to toggle your menus off using the code TM

Now, this is not Oblivion, The menus aren't as responsive. :pints: When I turn them off for screens, I often need to open the console again, close it, and wait several seconds for the menus to come back. Your view will also be 'frozen' when you open the console and use the code. So get in position for the screen you want before hand.

Below are instructions for enabling screenshots in your game for both the vanilla game and MGE. :trophy:

Vanilla Instructions:

Enabling Screenshots:

Open Morrowind.ini (C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Morrowind.ini in the default Windows installation), and you'll see a lot of code. In the eighth, largest section under [General], there is a line which says

Screen Shot Enable=0

Switch that to

Screen Shot Enable=1

Now, in Morrowind, press the Print Screen button on your keyboard (the button is sometimes hard to find, often you need to use the Shift key). You'll see a message which tells you that the screenshot has been created. It can be found in your main Morrowind folder.

(Addendum by ~Ninja Monkey)

To extend on the tutorial for taking screenshots above, you should change your pictures from a bitmap image to a jpeg image if you will be hosting your screenshots on the internet. To do this, open them up in Paint or any other photo editing program, go to "Save As..." and save as a jpeg file. Do NOT simply edit the file name from Screenshot#.bmp to Screenshot#.jpg. That only changes the file name, not the file type.

MGE Instructions:

When MGE is active, Morrowind's usual method of taking screenshots becomes unavailable. Fortunately, MGE offers its own screenshot feature. This guide explains how to activate it.

1. Open MGEgui.exe

2. Click on the Input tab.

3. Click on Launch Macro Editor.

4. In the Macro Editor, click on the key you want to use. Obviously this should be a key that isn't already used in the game. Also, don't choose the PrintScreen key (doing so will work, but Morrowind will display an irritating error message every time you take a screenshot).

5. In the upper left drop-down menu, select "Function".

6. In the lower left drop-down menu, select "Take screenshot"

7. Click "Save". The key you selected should now be displayed in green.

8. Close MGEgui, start Morrowind, and see if the feature works. Sreenshots will be saved with the name "MGE screenshot" (plus a number) in the Morrowind directory.

Please post with your own tips for screen captures in Morrowind!

Now, in Morrowind, press the Print Screen button on your keyboard (the button is sometimes hard to find, often you need to use the Shift key). You'll see a message which tells you that the screenshot has been created. It can be found in your main Morrowind folder.

There is more to that and below you see three lines from Morrowind.ini and the first line has WhoGuru already mention, but what's the other lines for. Well they're similar to what you're familiar with Oblivion.

Screen Shot Enable=1
Screen Shot Base Name=J:\Bethesda Softworks\screenshot\morrowind\ScreenShot
Screen Shot Index=0[/xml]

The 2nd line is simple a line where you can add your exact destination path on your HDD and by doing that you have saved your screenshots if you're reinstalling Morrowind.

The last line is exactly what Skyrim has and that's about what number of your pictures should start with plus one of course. An example...

You have the "Screen Shot Index=0" line in Morrowind.ini which means that your first screenshot will have the filename "Screenshot1.bmp" I think if you don't use MGE.

However MGE have the ability to let you choose which extension (bmp/jpg) you want have for your pictures and that's means that you don't need to convert your pictures in Wrye Mash.

I suggest that you assign the F12 key for taking screenshots with MGE in Morrowind, because the F12 key is only F-key that aren't used in Morrowind and both F10, F11 is already assigned for Windows.
