Ungrateful guards won't use their torches

So I have guards patrolling my city, and I put one Torch02 into each of their inventories. I can clearly see them holding their torches in the editor, but when I load up the game their torches are put away. What's the deal? Is there some script required to get them to hold their torches as they walk around?

Not 100% certain since it could be a few things, but if your guards are in an illuminated area like walking around a city, they won't need the torch for illumination and may not use it unless they detect dark.

Another issue may be that the save you're using is dirty if you loaded those guards before without torches, the may not equip torches you added later.

To answer your question, no a script is not required to make them use a torch. You CAN use scripts to force equip a torch but it shouldn't be required.

The area where they start out is near a pair of torches, but their patrol path takes them through pretty dark areas. As for the save, I'm loading up a clean save file every time - one created before ever setting foot in my city area. So strange...
