Reinstall

So I just reinstalled Oblivion in hopes of fixing the crash I mentioned. Now it won't play; I get a message saying:

The procedure entry point _BinkCopyToBufferRect@44 could not be located

Does this perhaps have to do with the fact that I deleted everything? If not, what's else might be wrong?

"Bink" is the kind of video format Beth uses for their animated intros and credits. Looks like you're just missing the codec (Binkw32.dll), which should have gotten re-installed with the game. Try one more re-install properly from the disc and see if that works.

Alternately, or also just to suit your preference, in your Oblivion.ini you can change these lines to empty:

SCreditsMenuMovie=

SMainMenuMovie=

SMainMenuMovieIntro=

SIntroSequence=

And then the game won't try to play the intros or credits. You can also set this ini tweak in Wrye Bash if you don't want to do it manually.
