Game crashes on start

You see, I finally worked up my courage and installed FO 3 on my computer. After a few mishaps, it started loading the title screen. Then it quit shortly after I clicked "New Game". Has this happened to any of you? What's the cure?

I can't help on FO3 since I don't have it anymore... but some questions for the others who can help:

Any mods installed?

if so, you should deactivated them, and try again, go until it doesn't Crash anymore.

Rebuild the ini file... Delete the old one (location ??? My Documents/Games/FO3 ???)... start the launcher and start game.

since you had any mishaps, it could have been a bad install, if nothing else works, I would do a complete uninstall, reboot, use CCleaner to clean the registry and system (create a restore point first). CCleaner will ask if you want to backup the registry files before deletion, choose yes.

Didn't FO3 also suffer from quad-core-itis? Needed some ini tweak or other to make it play nice?

This is the location>>> Mydocuments\Mygames\Fallout 3\FALLOUT.INI

Open up the fallout.ini and find the line that says "bUseThreadedAI=0" and change it to "bUseThreadedAI=1"

Hit enter, and under it add this line "iNumHWThreads=2" Close and Save the document. (you can select 1-4 ,,, 2 is just the most common)

Quad-core fix thread over on the officials.

Where did you install the game to, and what operating system are you using?

I ran FO3 just fine on my asus lappy with a core duo cpu. I could not run it on my PC when it had an i3 dual core (haybe because the hyper threading makes it run like a quad ?) I tried all the fixes but no soap. Good luck Tiger.

Windows 7, and I made sure not to install it in Program Files.

I'd try it with two threads and see if that helps any. Sure the fixes are for quad-core, but I think FO3 was designed for single cores, so they may work for duals. My quad is over three years old, so I know about the money issue.
