The bit with the broken sword is in relation to the fact that the sword doesn't look cracked or anything when it "breaks."

(That is, poking fun at the fact that in OB, there is no visual confirmation to show you why your weapon is no longer usable. Just a "Force" that keeps you from wielding a broken weapon.)

Don't you just hate when Sensei chews his toes in the midst of a demonstration! :cookie:

Indeed. It's even worse when he picks his nose. It's funny how Sensei will always try to explain the actions, too.

Sensei on chewing toes: "You must toughen your body so that opponents will feel like they're getting hit by an avalanche."

Me: "Isn't that why we do exercises and strike increasingly harder targets?"

Sensei on picking nose: "I'm clearing my airway of obstructions. Proper breathing is very important to the martial arts. It helps you focus your movements and provide more power to your blows. Yelling 'hyah!' when you strike forces adrenaline through your system, which helps provide more power to your blows."

Me: "Umm...yeah. That booger is only slightly larger than a grain of sand. If your airway was small enough to be 'obstructed' by that, you'd never have gotten your fist belt."

Sensei on why his eyes crossed after getting hit in the head: "If you focus too closely on your opponent, your peripheral vision fades and you will not see incoming attacks. You must defocus your eyes so that only movement registers to them." (I've actually found this to be good advice) "Crossing your eyes is a good way to do this."

Me: "Then why didn't you do that before you got knocked upside the head?"

Sensei: "Demonstrations are more effective than explanations."

Me: "Only when they're good enough not to require explanations afterwards."
