Daggerfall...

Daggerfall is absolutely huge. The most the the empire is available to explore. Problem being, it is all randomly generated, and that process can sometimes introduce problems, that aren't readily apparent for some time.

Character creation is very good, and extremely customizable.

Graphics are horrid, by todays standards.

The world is HUGE. (did I mention that?)

The game is buggy........ and can be extremely frustrating to play. The dreaded "The game has encountered an error, and you must reinstall" pops up far too often.

Is it worth playing? Maybe just to experience it. It is, after all, Free. :poke:

Your not the only one that has not played it, from what little I have seen, it reminds me heavily of Ultima Underworld (back when Ultima was just a first person single player game)

Ultima Underworld was a spin-off that got released a couple of years after the first and second Ultima. The Ultima series has always been top-down view or isometric. aa_tongue.gif

Daggerfall takes place in only two provinces, High Rock and Hammerfell.

I never got the bug of reinstalling the game. aa_tongue.gif

Try it, Zabre. It's free. "Prepare to experience your new obsession." - Daggerfall's punchline.

It's a real boring game to me... I mean you can't even steal without "HALT! HALT! HALT! HALT!" ugg... and the vastness is nothing... its just flat land with random vegitation. Maybe it's cause I'm used to newer games but it's incredably boring to me. The controls are impossible to use too, and you can win any battle just by backing up before the enemy attacks.

Don't hate me cause I don't like daggerfall aa_heyyou.gif

Critterman you sold me - now I have to install it!

Seriously. I'f you're used to new games then it's no wonder that something with crude graphics bores you. I don't hate ya! cookies.gif

I began this RP hobby on paper with a bunch of dice. Great graphics are like leather seats in a Corvette. I don't need 'em but they're really nice to have.

Excuse me - I'm going to go install it right now. aa_simba.gif

I started a game, and I think it's awesome. Do it, Grond, do it!

Daggerfall's graphics rely on the most sophisticated graphics engine I know of- my own imagination. And I like it that way. :smug:

Well I had a little trouble installing because my drives are lettered differently. Now I'm trying to determine just how to swing my sword at the foul rat. Lotsa keyboard combos that I have to try to remember. I'll print out a sheet. I like the Q/A character creation - I'm a knight. From Skyrim. My name is GROND.

Another tutorial cave, and this one is fugly! aa_biggrin.gif And Septim says "Close shut the ( marble ) jaws of Oblivion" in this one too! It's too early to say whether I love it - I'm still in the first room. aa_blush.gif

I can't swing a sword. A rat kills me! How does one go about swinging a sword, his fists or using a weapon in this game? It has M2 assigned as attack, and as I have a two-button mouse, I changed the key to '2'. Still nothing happens when I hammer on the key. I guess M2 is middle mouse button? Right mouse button does nothing either.

hehehe You mean, THIS??? :pints:

Ahh I love Daggerfall's manual. It's filled with lore while also explaining you how the game works.

They don't do manuals today like they did before.

Today, most manuals' purpose is only to explain the controls and mechanics.

Back then, they gave a lot of backstory about the world you were going to enter.

I still read Daggerfall's manual from time to time.

Daggerfall is awesome and I do believe it's the game in the series to provide most lore. Play it. Now. Not a suggestion. An order.

I agree so much with this. I do miss old school RPGs and their oversized manuals :lmao:

I am actually a huge Might and Magic fan by the way
